Scripture Readings: Matthew 11:15
St. Nicholas de flue opens today’s reflection with these beautiful prayers:
“O my Lord and my God, take from me all that keeps me from you!
O my Lord and my God, give me all that brings me nearer to you!
O my Lord and my God, take myself from me and let me possess only you!”
The scripture is full of so many occasions where our Lord Jesus Christ went to the mountain to pray and listen to His Father. Talking to God in prayers is not only to hear from Him but also an opportunity to grow in strength and holiness. No wonder Prophet Isaiah says, “But those who trust in the Lord shall find their strength renewed. They will rise on wings like eagles: they will run and will not be weary: they will walk and not grow weak.” (Isa. 40:31) As long as you trust in the Lord, your strength in prayer and holiness of life will always be renewed. Beloved, is there anything that is making it difficult for you to come close to God in prayer? I decree upon you today that whatever that may be, the glory and power in the name of Jesus Christ has destroyed it. Amen. Dear friend, Mary, recognising the grace inherent in listening and praying took her seat beside the Lord; while her sister Martha busied herself with household chores. This action of Mary advises believers to always create time to come before the foot of Jesus (private quiet time) daily. As often as you do this, your ears shall be more sensitive to spiritual things and instructions. To be busy in the house of God is very good, but there is the danger of losing your sensitivity to the voice of the Lord and like Martha, you will end up settling for the second best. So we learn to hear from God when we consciously allocate time to be with Him; either in quite or silent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament or in meditation of the word of God. Hear this, if this was not important the Lord would not have said, “He that hath an ear let him hear”, (Matt 11:15) fifteen times in the New Testament.
Beloved, the Holy Spirit asks you at today’s reflection to take the following to heart:
You are born into the family of God with specially designed ears so that you are able to hear when the Lord speaks.
It is your responsibility to train these ears to be sensitive to God by observing regular quite time with the Lord, prayer and study of the word.
Hearing from the Lord SHOULD become from today your highest priority. Yearn for it and work for it. You will have it.

Take these prayers seriously:
Lord, I look up to You today to teach me. Don’t abandon me.
I surrender to You holy God, so that You can prepare my ears from today to hear You speak to me (anoint your ears with blessed oil from a Catholic Priest).
Grant me O Lord a calm heart so that I can have the composure to seat at Jesus’ feet like Mary. In the name of Jesus.
