MONDAY DAY 19

GOD REWARDS THOSE WHO HELP THE POOR

Scripture Reading: Luke 14:12-14

The Lord wants us to love our neighbours and most especially those who are poor and needy. The Lord wants us to take care of them and to take care of their needs even though they may not be able to pay us back.

The word of God in Luke 14:12 says: “Then Jesus said to his host, “When you give a luncheon or dinner, do not invite your friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbours; if you do, they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be re- paid by God who is the Father of the poor.” The poor and needy around you may not be able to reward you, but God will reward you abundantly for all you do for him through them.

Let us read and meditate on the word of God in Proverbs 19:17 which says “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.” Proverbs 14:31 says “Whoever op- presses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honours him.” Proverbs 21 :13 “Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered.” Matthew 5:42 “Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you.” Isaiah 58:10 “If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflict- ed, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday.” Ezekiel 16:49 “Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and pros- perous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy.” Romans 12:13 “Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.”
