Scripture Reading: Matthew 10:7

A Christian author once said “When I think of a preacher I think of a man dressed in a nice suite standing behind the pulpit on stage in church. Bible in one hand.Microphone in the other.A crowd of people in front of him. When I think of a missionary I think of someone in a foreign country. Spreading love to the poor and the needy.Building orphanage homes.Sharing the gospel. But my thinking on both of these has changed in the past few years.” Francis once said, “Preach the Gospel – use words if necessary!”
Have you ever noticed that Jesus’ life and ministry often took place as He went? For instance he healed the woman with the issue of blood as He was on his way to raise Jairus’ daughter from the dead. And there was the time He was approaching the city of Jericho when blind Bartimaeus cried out to receive his sight. There are many such “on the way” stories. We often think of Christian life and ministry as a planned event, we are only prayerful when called to share the word of God with a group of people, we behave as stage-managed Christians. Dear friends in Christ, the Holy Spirit invites us today to live out our Christian life as we live our normal life. Kindness while driving, kind treatment of servers; smiles to strangers, letting someone go ahead in a line and many more. These are all ministry opportunities in the Jesus style…as you go. Yes, God calls some people to preach the gospel, with a microphone, behind a pulpit, in front of a crowd. But He calls ALL of us to preach the gospel without a microphone, with no crowd, with no pulpit…. But rather in our everyday lives to every single person that we meet. One day every person will be held accountable for how well they preached His gospel, not only with their words but even more importantly, with their lives. Because it is with your actions and deeds that the gospel is proclaimed… not necessarily with your words. “Let your lives preach”
“You are called to be God’s hands and His feet to everyone around you. You are called to help the needy. You are called to bring hope to the lost. You are called to serve those around you.” I love how in Acts 1:8 Jesus asked the disciples to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, in Judea, in Samaria, and then to the ends of the earth. Where did He ask them to start first? At home. And that’s where you and I need to start first. Right under our own roofs. Unless and until God calls you to spread His Good News in a foreign country you are called to spread it right where you’re. You don’t have to travel too far to find hopeless, discouraged, poor, lost people who are desperately in need of a Savior… you just need to go to your next door neighbor, to the homeless shelter in your city, that suffering co-worker or employee, let God use you today to spread His gospel to those people that are depending on you to be God’s witness of His great love for them in the name of Jesus. Peter Kreeft reminds us that “The world was won for Christ not by arguments but by sanctity of life”.Let us conclude with the words of St. (Mother) Teresa of Calcutta “Stay where you are – find your own Calcutta. Find the sick, the suffering, the lonely, right there where you are – in your own homes and in your own families, in your workplaces and schools.”

Prayer Points:
1. Ask God for forgiveness for the times you failed to preach Jesus through your actions
2. Tell God to deliver you from anything preventing the light of Jesus from shining through your character
3. Lord I come to You, incapable of being able to live a holy life myself and humbly ask Lord that You would teach me to be holy and show me how You would have me live. Open my eye to see what You would have me to do – unblock my ears so that I may hear Your still small voice and give me a teachable spirit to learn all that You would teach.
4. Lord Jesus prevent me I pray from being squeezed into the world’s mould but rather may I be conformed more and more, into Your image and likeness, and help me to keep my eyes fixed on You as I live my life in the name of Jesus
