Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians.16:13
When the Holy Spirit tells you to keep your eyes open, it means that your consciousness, both spiritual and physical, must be awake and alert. Beloved, the convictions that are the bedrock of your faith are always under relentless attacks. The devil seeks and attempts to tear in shreds, the very fabrics of your Christian foundation, to leave you defenseless. Hear St. Thomas More,“The devil is ready to put out men’s eyes that are content willing to wax blind” The Holy Spirit tells us in Ephesians 6:11-14, to “put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” The weapon of our enemy is not physical, it is subtle. It is his wiles, tricks, schemes, and strategy that the devil uses against believers, and so often times, his attacks are not easily traceable to him, for he covers his tracks. He desires to unbalance you; he wants you to shift grounds, and stand on something other than Christ Jesus. Christ is the only rock on which we can stand firm, all other grounds are sinking sand. The finished work of Christ on the cross is the only ground of victory, His Blood, the only passage to God. (Hebrews 10:19-20).
Beloved, all that the enemy sponsors into your life are geared towards the shift of your faith onto something other than Christ. The devil tries to trick you into believing that the Blood of Jesus Christ and the accomplished work on the Cross, are not sufficient to save, keep and protect you. The devil fights and conspires each moment to perforate your convictions. DON’T GIVE him THE CHANCE!
Beloved, you must be sensitive and alert so that you won’t be taken unawares. Your faith and trust in the saving power of God is what will keep you strong in the evil days. Unless you hold firm to them, they will become vague to you. As soon as that happens, you become an easy prey to the devil. The Message Bible puts it very neatly; “Stay alert. The devil is poised to pounce and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up!” (1 Pet.5:8). As you go through the day, be conscious of the fact that you are in the middle of a fierce battle. Cooperate with the Holy Spirit to guard your eternal inheritance, give it all you’ve got!
