Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 2:35

God withdrew His blessings upon the House of Eli because of the grievous sins of his sons;  indifference [see 1 Samuel 2: 12-17]. In our Scripture reading of today, God said, “Then I will raise for myself a faithful priest who shall do according to what is in my heart and in my mind. I will build him a sure house, and he shall walk before My anointed forever.” Eli was replaced by Samuel. Saul was replaced by David. Judas Iscariot was replaced by Matthias. Every branch that does not bear fruit, He takes away (John15:2).

I believe that Eli’s household after a while started to think that they were doing God a favour by serving Him. You are privileged to be in the household of God. It is not a right and an entitlement. Do not take it for granted! The Bible says, “And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our Father,’ for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise children for Abraham” (Matthew 3:9). IF YOU DON’T SIT UP, GOD CAN REPLACE YOU!!!

When you are serving God and His interests; God takes pleasure in your life and blesses you. Look at this scripture: “So you shall serve the LORD your God and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you. No one shall be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days” (Exodus 23:25-26). That is why God had initially blessed Eli’s house [see 1 Sam 2:30]. They thought that it was by their own doing and started misbehaving. What did God do? God changed them and withdrew his blessings. No one is indispensable! The work of God must continue! Doing the work of God is not for God’s benefit; it is for your benefit.

Prayer points:

1.    Thank you, Lord, for the chance to serve You. I am grateful for the opportunity. I count it a privilege. Endow me, Lord, with strength, discipline, wisdom, and passion needed for the job in Jesus name.

2.    Lord Jesus may my position not get to my head. I humble myself under the mighty hand of God. Give me the grace to keep my feet on the ground.

3.    Your word in Exodus 23:25 said that you will prosper me; I will not be sick; I will not be barren, and I will live long if I serve you O Lord. I, therefore, claim these blessings for my service in the kingdom of God in Jesus name.
