Scripture Reading: Luke 5: 1-11

Let us start this new month (month of new beginning) with this assurance from the Psalmist. He says, “For He (Jesus) spoke and it was done. He commanded and it stood fast.” (Psalm 33:9). Beloved, this is the sixth month of this year, and it seems that some of your expectations are yet to be met. You have also toiled so much. You have prayed all manners of prayers. You have had series of Novena prayers, observed many days of fasting, booked masses and capped all these efforts with charity. Yet nothing positive seems to be coming out from these efforts. This was exactly the situation with Peter and his companions. In Verse 5a of our scriptural references Peter’s response to Jesus’ request was, “Master, we have worked all night and have taken nothing.” This statement represents the mind or thinking of many Christians as we enter into the second half of this year. They would spend time to recount all their efforts that yielded no fruits. Hear this, “A User of Daily Strength seeking the fruit of the womb after five years of marriage, pleaded with her husband to come to her during her ovulation period; but was rebuffed by him, saying, “What came out of all my efforts all these five years.” This is a statement from a defeated and faithless mind. Persons like this, do not know the Lord nor believe in His power to turn things around. Even   though, Peter knew how hard they had toiled, he recognized the person of Jesus, His Supremacy, Power and Sovereignty and said, “Nevertheless, at your word I will let down the nets.”  When they had done so, they caught such large number of fish that their nets began to break. (Verses 2-6).

Beloved it seems to you that your future is bleak; everything seems to be happening contrary to your expectations. Since the beginning of the year, you have had series of disappointments. Your business, which hitherto was sprawling and promising, suddenly started nose-diving.  In fact, you feel completely empty; contemplating whether to continue to live or call it quit. As a young lady, you have kept faith with God’s commandment on fornication; refusing all sinful advances, yet no suitor seems to be insight. So you have gotten to a stage where you are contemplating to defile yourself if only to demonstrate to God your ‘displeasure with Him’.

Dear friend in Christ, even though you are wrestling with depression and tormenting memories, as a  result of all these unrealized expectations; the Lord of new beginning is about to come on board’ if you let Him, He will tell you what to do. Just like, He said to Peter, “Launch out into the deep and let down your net for a catch.” Jesus the Lord says to you today:“Say no to depression, faithlessness, unwillingness, fears and doubt.”He says to you, “BELIEVE IN ME FOR I AM THE KING OF ALL CREATION, THE ALMIGHTY, THE KING OF KINGS, THE ALPHA AND OMEGA. Beloved, you are at the threshold of your miracle.  Believe with me that the remaining part of this 2016 shall be better than the past for your unrealized dreams shall be met; if only you obey and do not doubt.

Prayer Points:

  1. Thank God for this sixth month of the year.
  2. Make these declarations seriously:
  • As in Isa 62: 1-5, I am a crown of beauty in the hands of the Lord, a crown of glory, a royal diadem in the hand of my God.
  • Nations shall see my vindication and glory, because the mouth of the Lord has spoken it; for He shall bring it to pass.
  • I am no more forsaken or desolate, for I am like a tree planted by the side of a stream, I shall bear fruit at the right time and my expectations shall never run dry. (Ps. 1:3)
  • During this remaining part of this year and beyond all my lost glories shall be restored to me; for the Lord is with me and I shall be “embarrassed” with joy and peace.
  • My lips shall be filled with laughter and my heart joy and I shall skip like a calf.
  1. Thank God for answered prayers.

Exercise:  Use today’s reflection to encourage at least one person to have faith in God.
