Scripture reading:Luke 15:7
When Scripture taught that the prodigal son came to his senses, one would literally be tempted to think that at a point he was mad. No! because he knew how to collect his portion and where he wanted to go and how he wanted to use the money. The Holy Spirit inspires us today to consider what actually happened to the prodigal son. The prodigal son suddenly had a spiritual reawakening and by the power of the Spirit, the life of God in him came alive again. As a result of this spiritual change in his life, he, now, had the capacity to respond positively to the promptings of the Spirit of God to make godly choices. He became conscious of the messy state he was in. Beloved no one attains any reasonable Christian maturity without the prevailing influence of the Holy Spirit upon his life.
Father F. Antonisamy in his book entitled, “An Introduction to Christian Spirituality” authenticates the essence of spirituality in the life of a believer through this definition: “Christian spirituality is the response of the Christians to the call of the Church, the body of Christ, to holiness” Today the Lord calls us to live the life of the Spirit. Many a times we wonder why as believers we are not able to do what is right and just before God. Dear child of God, the ugly makeup of evil cannot be ascertained by our human nature.
The Lord is not happy with the number of believers in the church who are driven by the flesh and its passion. It is the Spirit of God in us that makes us to realize (come to our senses) that what we are doing or where we are is not actually what or where we are supposed to be. It is the Holy Spirit’s conviction that makes us realize how filthy and immoral sexual activities are. It is the Spirit of the living God that makes a child of God see how useless and vain it is to collect bribe, “kick-backs”, “sorting- (extorting money from students). He makes us to know how wretched we are without God. He helps us even to realize how “unkempt” our lives have become because according to John Wesley, “cleanliness is indeed next to godliness” Jesus says to us today, “When, however the Spirit comes, who reveals the truth about God, He will lead you into all the truth”
