Scripture Reading: Esther 2:15

Hear Archbishop Ulathorne, “The acts of contemplation are Jour: to seek after God, to Jind Him, to feel his sacred truth .in the soul, and to be united with him and to enjoy him ”. For the fact that we have an unconquerable God, that ugly story must change for the better. At times, we are almost tempted to believe that God has brought us into this world to suffer; some are almost tempted to think also that God is a sadist. But not at all, suffering and wickedness entered into the world through disobedience, disobedience brought about death and I tell you death brought about many evil things including wickedness. Human wickedness has actually brought about too much pains and afflictions on people. So many people today are undergoing one form of human wickedness or the other. Some are bed ridden with sickness, some have been made barren, to some delayed marriages, joblessness, untold hardships, oppressions and exploitations abound. Today, our reflection wants us to attain the level of relationship with God that makes us endeared to Him. We are encouraged today to move to the level of relationship with God that makes you command God’s favour in all your ways. This is true because the favour of God is only what we need and not any form of “smartness”.

What then is favour? It can be seen as the amazing and undeserved benefits of being God’s sons and daughter. The good things we receive from God are not our right but privileges. The favour of God rests only on the chosen ones, those who have allowed all of their actions to be pleasing to God. In Genesis 6:8, during the time of Noah, there were too much of wickedness, but Noah lived an honourable life that endeared him to God. Isaac also found favour with God, God was pleased with him and in Genesis 26:12, “Isaac sowed seed in that land and that year he harvested a hundred times as much as he had sown because the Lord blessed him”. You can see how favour made Isaac to live in plenty in the land of Gerar where there was famine. No wonder for those who understand what favour does, they are not afraid in hard times, whether it is economic depression, recession or unemployment; they have full confidence in God who has all the power to save. Hear the Psalmist, “Happy are those who reject the advice of evil men, who do not follow the example of sinners or join those who have no use for God …. They are like trees that grow beside a stream, that bear fruit in the right time, and whose leaves do not dry up. They succeed in everything they do”

(Psalm 1:1 – 3). Like Esther in our reference today, everybody including God would admire you and His favour and the positive thoughts of men shall be your lot.

In Malachi 1:2-3, we are told of how God had shown His love on Jacob and despised Esau. Judging from human perspective, one would say that God was partial but that is not correct at all, Jacob operated the lifestyle that commanded God’s favour. Beloved we can command God’s favour or disfavour by our lifestyles. In 1 Samuel 13:14, Saul lost favour with God and he lost the privileges of His descendants ruling Israel forever, because he lost God’s admiration due to disobedience.

Beloved in Christ, let us imbibe the following godly traits: prayerfulness, obedience to His word, pursuit of divine wisdom and living righteously. In these you shall definitely be launched into the realm of God’s favour

Prayer Points:

  1. Pray that God gives you the grace to do only what pleases him.
  2. O Lord improve my prayer life
  3. O Lord you know the stuff from which I am made. Help me Holy Father to live righteously, for it is my greatest heart desire
  4. Pray that the good Lord gives you the grace to be interested in spiritual things.
  5. Lord take away from me everything that turns off your favour from my life and everything that makes me look dirty and unattractive to you in Jesus name

Exercise: Share the reflection with someone today
