Scriptural Reading: Proverbs 16:3
Our reference today says, “Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established.” If the Lord is the Centre of one’s life, then what one plans will be based on the will of the Lord. No wonder the Psalmist advises thus: “Commit thy way onto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.” (Ps. 37:5). In 1 Peter 5:7, the scripture says, “Casting all your care upon Him for He careth for you.” Beloved in Christ, is there anything man can possibly achieve without the help of God? Obviously nothing! God cares for the afflictions of every one of His children. He does not abandon us in our situations; rather ensures that we are released and relieved of all ugly situations that come our way.
Dear friend, trusting God for who He is, is the key to success in life. It is the key to receive healing, deliverance, spiritual and material growth from the Lord. It is however difficult for a man who does not trust God to commit his works into His hands. No one delivers his belonging to an enemy for safekeeping. A lot of persons, including believers trust in their abilities rather than on God; and so they encounter failures and disappointments. R. H. Benson says, “All things work together for good, if one will trust God. Nothing is so bad as not trusting God.” No wonder the Psalmist prayed, “And let the graciousness of our LORD our God be on us. Establish the works of our hands on us. Yes prosper the works of our hands.” Amen. (Ps. 90:17). Cardinal Newman says, “What is more elevating and transforming than the generosity of heart which risks everything on God’s words.”
Share this testimony from Sister V from Imo state: “The Lord had done it for me. I had made all arrangements to adopt a child when I felt I could not have mine. I bought all the materials needed for the arrival of the adopted child. I expected the child in August, but was diverted to another person. It was painful to me to resell all the materials already bought for the child. In my pain, I raised my eyes to the Lord, to come to my aid and He surprised me. Behold the answer came spontaneously. Today, 8th December 2015, I am an expectant mother with age above 50 years. . . . To God be the glory, forever. Amen.” In Proverbs 5:3 the Scripture says to us, “Trust the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” Wisdom is when one realized that he cannot depend on his own strength, capabilities, intellect and spirituality to succeeding life; or to discover those things that lead to better life. We must acknowledge God in all we do, noting that only God’s principles are eternal. When we acknowledge Him and commit our ways unto Him, we are guaranteed good life. If we can trust God in everything and do not depend on ourselves, then He shall be our Guardian, Counsellor and Deliverer. God will clear the way (Isaiah 40:3, 45:13). The benefit of committing oneself to God is both preservative of one’s health as well as God’s blessing through fruitfulness. So whenever we commit our ways to God, we become candidates of God’s divine provisions. He clears our paths and makes us succeed where we would have failed.
