Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 4:1-11

The word champion is used to  describe a person who always emerges victorious in a contest. Serena Williams is described as a champion when it comes to Women’s singles tennis. Tiger Wood is a world champion when it comes to the game of golf. Mohammed Ali also is noted for his championship strides in boxing. Chelsea Football Club has been noted for the championship strides in the Premier League. One of the features of these champions is that they scarcely can be defeated in any contest; this is because they know what it takes to be a champion.

The same goes to any true child of God, in the spiritual contest, yours is to be a champion. The way it is designed is that a child of God is not supposed to be defeated in any contest with the enemy (the devil); hence the scripture says in Genesis 32:28, “….you will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have wrestled with God and with men and have prevailed.” But what is happening today? Hosea 8:3 alerts us thus, “But Israel rejected what is right; the enemy will hunt them down.” This is exactly what happened to the chosen ones of God in our reading today. The presence of the Lord represented by the Ark of Covenant in which His Majesty is enthroned could not save them.

Their evil ways separated them away from their God. What then could bring us defeat, the same question the elders of Israel asked in Verse 3, “…why has the Lord allowed us to be defeated today by the Philistines?” Dear child of God, you may be asking the same question now due to what is happening around you. Do check very well; are you still under the covering of the Almighty? “If you dwell in the shelter of the Most High and rest in the shadow of the Almighty, you can say to the Lord, “My stronghold, my refuge, my God in whom I trust!” He will rescue you from the fowler’s snare and from deadly pestilence” (Psalm 91:1-3).

Let us therefore do away with every weight and sin that so easily beset us so that we can run the salvation race with determination and seriousness. ( Heb. 12:1) St. Paul writing to the Romans said” Do not conform yourselves with the standards of this world, but let God transform you inwardly by a complete change of your mind. Then you will be able to know the will of God –what is good and is pleasing to him and is perfect.”(Rom. 12:2) A child of God told this story, “A sister invited prayer people to come and pray for liberation of their family from the bondage of the evil one. After some time she called to tell them that the problem they prayed for was still lingering. The leader of the prayer team was amazed and suspecting that sin may been at the background. He then asked her, “When did you last engage in fornication? She was honest, she said, “three days after the family liberation prayer.” Dear child of God, you may have been praying for something for so long, check very well whether it is your actions that are preventing your victory. It is only sin that can make Satan stand before God to accuse you.

Prayer Points:

1. Thank God for today’s reflection.

2. Every sin in my life causing Satan to have upper hand in my life, I renounce them today.

3. Meditate on Psalm 91:14-16

4. Blood of Jesus Christ wash away all my evil attitudes and bad habits in Jesus name. Amen.

5. Take the Prayer of Padre Pio in section A.

Exercise: Look backwards to your life, what is that sin that is delaying your expected miracle stop it. Repent of it.
