Scripture Read — 2 Samuel 21 :15-17
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult (Psalm 46:1, RSV)
Hear this, “My family has had no shortage of hard times and struggles the last few years. We‘ve had the ups and downs of family life, health struggles for just about everyone in our family, and the hardship that goes along with watching as my dad fights his pro- gressive form of Parkinson‘s Disease. If we were go- ing it alone, any of these things might have been enough to break us, but through it all we’ve had strong faith that God is working in our lives, that we can trust Him, and that His strength is enough. Today I want to share some verses that l have found helpful over the past few years, that have bolstered my re- solve and given me hope. I‘m hoping that they can give you some encouragement as well.”
Trouble may come but victory is certain. You can- not go through life without experiencing troubles. We are not to be afraid of troubles. Face your troubles fearlessness. There is help in trouble. You don‘t have to face your troubles alone. God will be with you in times of trouble. See the promise of God in Isaiah 43:1-3 “But now, 0 Jacob, listen to the Lord who cre- ated you. O Israel, the one who formed you says,” Do not be afraid, for l have ransomed you. l have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you” (NLT).
We all experience times of adversity in our lifetime.
As the saying goes, what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger. Turn to God and His words during times of adversity for strength and comfort. When we put our faith in God, He will help guide us to the path of hap- piness and peace. Psalm 112: 1, 7-8 tells us “Praise the Lord! Happy are those who fear the Lord. They are not afraid of evil tidings; their hearts are firm, se- cure in the Lord. Their hearts are steady, they will not be afraid.”

1. My Lord and God, I am in trouble and my heart is full of sorrow. My heart is heavy and I am in great despair. Though my trials tend to overwhelm me, I turn to You with confidence, knowing for certain that You will have mercy on me and save me.
