SEPTEMBER 2020

TUESDAY DAY 1

FINISHING STRONG

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 4:7

Dear child of God, welcome to the month of September. We pray that this new month will be a month of Open Doors and Breakthrough for all Users of DSD in the name of Jesus the Lord-Amen. Father! In the Name of Jesus Christ, I open the door of my heart, come in and dwell. Father! In the Name of Jesus Christ, break away every gate of brass and every bar of iron erected against my breakthrough in this month. Father, open unto me doors of opportunity, doors of divine success and doors of divine power in this month to the glory of Your Holy Name – Amen!

Good starts are wonderful and exciting but the important thing is to finish well and strong. According to Alvan Tison, “Starting strong is no guarantee for finishing strong.” Indeed, many people are excited to start a race, business, college and relationship as well as start a New Year but not all who started well finish well and strong. Some drop out of the way for several reasons and still others finish well and strong. This brings to mind my college experience: not all who participated in the matriculation that graduated with us. Robin Sharma says, “Starting strong is good. Finishing strong is epic”. Through our baptism, God has transferred us from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of his beloved Son (Colossians 1:13); and our journey of faith has begun. We have become children of God and heirs to His kingdom. Yet, it is only if we strive to live out our call to holiness each day and persevere in it till the very end that we receive the final reward of our faith.

As you pursue your goal and tap daily from the heavenly resources, the finishing grace will assist you to become who you are created to be and do what you could not do in your natural strength. We come to realize this truth in what the Psalmist said. Hear the Psalmist, “A king is not saved by a powerful army, nor is a warrior rescued by his great strength. But the Lord’s eyes are upon those who fear him, upon those who trust in his loving-kindness……” (Psalm 33:16,18).

Our Christian profession will be of no benefit to us if we begin our journey of faith well but allow ourselves to drift away, distracted by the lure of the world around us. We must aim at finishing strong not by our own power but the power of the Holy Spirit working in us. We must consciously trust in the loving-kindness of God to see us through.

MASS: GREEN 1 Cor 2:10b-16; Ps 145:8-9.10-11.12-13ab.13cd-14 (R.17a); Accl Lk 7:16; Gospel Lk 4:31-37
