Scripture Reading:Mark 16:17

Praise the Lord! Beloved in Christ, for some time now I have been hoping to have this wonderful opportunity to share with us one of the realities of our times which some people wrongly refer to as accidentals to Christianity and the evangelical work of Jesus! You remember Simon the Sorcerer? What he saw during the ministry of Philip the evangelist? “With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all” (Acts 4:33). Beloved today, God wants us to erase that wrong impression that many of us have about miracles. Miracles exist! Although you do not necessarily have to see miracles to believe, there are people who require miracles to believe; especially atheists!

God also graciously gives miracles to bring joy, relief, and his blessings into the lives of people who ordinarily would not have had access to such solutions at that particular moment of need. MIRACLES ARE ANSWERS TO PRAYERS PARTICULARLY WHERE IT AFFECTS DIMENSIONS THAT WE THINK ARE IMPOSSIBLE! It is the same as saying God answers prayers! Any time God answers a prayer, a miracle has taken place. Nicodemus who came to Jesus by night said this of Jesus, “Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him” (John 3:2). Again Jesus said to those who doubted “but if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me and I am in the Father” (John 10:38). “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do” (John 14:12). What about the miracle of the five loaves and two fish; and the seven loaves with which Jesus fed 5000, and 7,000 respectively (Mark 8: 17-20)? In all of these instances, Jesus intended that miracles be one of the pointers to the All Sufficiency of the All Sufficient and the Almighty Jehovah El-Shaddai. Even the writer of the Gospel of John says in Chapter 20:30-31, “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples … But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name”.

In the Acts of the apostles, numerous miracles are recorded which occurred during the ministry of the apostles and Christian converts who were involved in evangelism; this is God’s original plan to show to generations, in their own time, even in our own time, that there is still a living God. EVEN IN THE CANONISATION OF SAINTLY PERSONS ALL THROUGH CHURCH HISTORY SPECIAL CARE IS GIVEN TO ESTABLISH THE EXTRAORDINARY EXPRESION OF GOD’S PRESENCE AND POWER (MIRACLES IF YOU LIKE) IN AND THROUGH THE LIFE OF THE CANDIDATE. And so there was nothing wrong with what Simon saw! It was his heart that was wrong (Acts 8:21). MIRACLES ARE NOT AN END, THEY ARE ONE OF THE MANY MEANS OF BRINGING PEOPLE TO SALVATION AND BRINGING SALVATION TO PEOPLE. A wrong heart manifests the works of the flesh; such a carnal person finds it difficult to understand the things of God. He does not have the capacity to obey the commandments of God or even extend genuine love on neighbours. The reason is that every of his actions and thoughts are clouded with evil intentions. The love he tries to show is satanic, demonic and unacceptable to God (James 3:17). Do you need a ‘miracle’ to get out of a serious problem? Then pray!!
