Scripture Reading: Ephesians 1:4.
It is necessary for every child of God, those who no longer live by their human nature, to understand that it wasn’t by their own choice that they came to Christ. It isn’t the initiative of any man to choose God. It wasn’t your deliberateness, wisdom, desire or anything in or of you that brought you to the Almighty. This is because, since the fall of Adam, man lacked the capacity to choose the right way. The Scripture says to us, “We all, like sheep, had gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way.” (Isa 53:6)
Jesus said to His disciples before He was betrayed; “You didn’t choose me, but I chose you…” (Jn15:16). Our reference scripture tells us that God made this choice before creation. And there was a purpose in His heart when He made us His choice. “Just as he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before him in love.”
Beloved, God chose you because He has a future in His heart for you. He desires something from your life, and so, from the womb He cast His eyes upon you. There is a divine counsel, a divine project over your life. A destiny is set for you to walk into, and the invisible hand of God is at work, bringing you into it. You didn’t just happen to be a believer, He chose you.
Dear child of God, you are an ordained person, you were ordained by the Almighty before you were born. (Jer.1:5) You were ordained to bear lasting fruits. His destiny for you is that you be conformed to the image of His dear Son. So that, just as He is, you will be in this world. (Rom. 8:29) Christ came to bring many sons to glory, and so wherever you may be, you are to live for Him, bringing many other sons to glory.
Beloved, you were chosen to be an instrument of reconciliation for Him. St Francis understood this, and so he prayed; “Lord make me instrument of your peace…!”If you understand this too, you would live to fulfil the reason for His choice of you; your life will bear lasting fruit. Let men see Him in you, show forth His glory. Your family must see Jesus in you, they should be drawn to God because of your lifestyle. Are you bearing lasting fruit? Or are you irrelevant in God’s project?

2. “Lord, I am still necessary to your people, I refuse no labour. Your holy will be done in my life. Amen” (Adopted from the prayers of St. Martin de Tours)
