Scripture Reading: Isaiah 7:14

In Luke 2:11. scripture says, “Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” St. Irenaeus says, “The word of God, Jesus Christ, on account of His great love for mankind, became what we are in order to make us what He is. Himself.” Our reference today says, “Well then, the Lord Himself will give you a sign; a young woman who is pregnant will have a son and will name him Emmanuel.” Dear User of Daily Strength, the Holy Spirit calls us today, “Let us all go to Bethlehem in the company of the Shepherd and adoring Magi to pay homage to the new born King of the universe”. Let us join the entire world to rejoice saying, “Unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given” (Isa 9:6). Dear friend, Jesus is the incarnate of the Father, our God, yet he is our senior brother, friend, confidant. Redeemer and Saviour. Listen to St. Thomas Aquinas, “The greatest of God was not east off but the slightness of human nature was put on. ” No wonder Peter Abelard said this, “/ think that the purpose and cause of the Incarnation was that God might illuminate the world bv his wisdom and excite it to the love of Himself ”

Jesus therefore is the fulfillment of God’s promise to man when Adam and Eve fell. At the time Adam and Eve fell, God in his love and compassion for what he created made clothes, garments of skin for them, covering their nakedness. In response to this solemn promise by God. He came down to the earth, by taking the form of flesh in the womb of a virgin woman called Mary. The result of this magnanimity by God is what the entire world commemorates today. The Greek Anthology exclaims, “. . . . Heaven is the handiwork of this child”. St. Paul writing to the Colossians says. “He (Jesus) is the image of the unseen God and for all creation, He is the firstborn, for in Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible: thrones, rulers, authorities, powers …. All were made through Him” (Col. 1:15-16).

Let us therefore adore and admire Him. Let us thank God for the miraculous conception of the Son of God, an event unheard of and unparalleled since then; that a virgin would conceive and bear a son without the intervention of man. This is marvelous and worthy of our praise. Prophet Jeremiah says, “The Lord has created a new thing in the earth; a woman shall protect a man” (Jer. 31:22b). God is so magnificent and wonderful. Since a woman (Eve) led the way into sin that made man loose paradise, a woman also in the person of our Blessed Virgin Mary, brought forth the One who made man to regain paradise. What a display of love from our God. By the power of His Spirit. Jesus was conceived and born of the virgin without a tint of original sin, which belongs to all those born of the flesh.

Dear User of Daily Strength, let us in unison reverently bow down before the Holy Child whose innocence restored to mankind its ancient glory, lost as a result of the disobedience of Adam and Eve.
