Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 2:4 – 5
In our scriptural reference, St. Paul says, “My speech and my proclamation were not with plausible words of wisdom but with a demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith might rest not on human wisdom, but on the power of God.” Any believer who does not have the Word of God built into his/her spirit-man is someone who is Christian by name, but lacks the power thereof. Every believers should be a custodian of the unfailing Word of God and able to proclaim it with power; any believer who lacks the Word does not know Jesus and therefore cannot trust Him. They trust in their eloquence, academic abilities and perhaps their popularity within the community. He sees everything from the view point of logic and philosophy. Anything that does not fall into human reasoning cannot be real. Everything they say or do must find expression and authenticity with the realm of the five senses. They are simply carnal and lack the knowledge of the Person of Jesus Christ. The scripture aptly describes such believers, thus: “They shall be like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see when relief comes. They shall live in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.” (Jer. 17:6) Such are the Christians who run about seeking assistance from even unhealthy places when trials come. Hear Smith Wigglesworth, who often said, “I am not moved by what I see. I am not moved by what I feel; I am moved by only what I believe.” No wonder the scripture says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own insight.” (Prov. 3:5) St. Teresa of Avila says, “Consider seriously how quickly people change, and how little trust is to be in them; and cleave fast unto God, who changeth not.” Beloved in Christ, as God does not change, so His Words never change. Every spoken word of God remains valid unto eternity.
Dear friend, why do you fret and worry over strange things happening in your life. The Word of God is available for you to apply. It is like a balm, when applied to an injury, it soothes it. The scripture says, “God is not a human being, that He should lie, or a mortal, that He should change His mind. Has He promised, and will not do it? Has He spoken, and will not fulfil it?” (Num. 23:19) Hear the Psalmist, “Let all the earth fear the LORD: Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For Hespake and it was done; he command and it stood fast.”(Psa. 33:8 – 9). Beloved, whatever promises there are in the scripture are for you, to exploit and employ. If the scripture says, “No weapon that is formed against you shall prosper . . . .” (Isaiah 54:17) believe it. If the scripture says, “The Lord is near to them that are of broken heart; and save such as to be of contrite heart” (Psa. 34:18), believe it. He says, “O taste and see that the Lord is good” (Psa. 34:8), believe it. He says, “I am the Lord that heals you” (Exo. 15:26), believe it. Beloved, God’s words are indescribably powerful and are given to believers to believe and apply to whatever situation confronts them. Today, the Holy Spirit says to you, there is power in the Word of God, study it, meditate on it and apply it to any situation facing you NOW. Every situation is subject to the authority of the word of God which has been settled in heaven.
