THURSDAY DAY 11
HOW CAN THEY REPENT AGAIN?
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 6:1-6
Many things seem impossible to man because of the nature of man. Many obstacles seem difficult if not impossible to man to overcome because he has registered it in his subconscious mind and has uttered it with his mouth. That impossibility which you have said with your mouth is difficult but not impossible to retrieve. It all depends on your disposition and attitude towards your past, present and future life. If your future must be positive, then your yesterday should not dictate your future. Is there any amongst us who has no past? Without a past, there can be no present and future: your past may have been a misguided knowledge of who Christ is, lack of faith or departure from the truth. Dear friend worry not. Ecclesiastes 3:1 says, “Everything that happens in this world happens at the time God chooses.” Scripture records that Jesus fell three times under the cross and He rose again three times and staggered on.
Verses 4-6 of our scriptural reference today states as follows “For how can those who abandon their faith be brought back to repent again? They were once in God’s light; they tasted heaven’s gift and received, their share of the Holy Spirit; they knew from experience that God’s word is good, and they had felt the powers of the coming age. And then they abandon their faith! It is impossible to bring them back to repent again, because they are again crucifying the Son of God and exposing him to public shame” The life of a Christian is a life of falling into sin and rising again. The power to rise again comes from the Holy Spirit who sustains our lives in faith. Some years ago in the course of discussion, a woman shared with me that she left her marriage on three occasions because she lost faith in her husband and each occasion the Spirit ministered to her to return to her marriage and she did. In course of our discussion she said, “I have discovered that failure or setback is a step to a higher level” I have repented and have fully settled in marriage.” How can we repent again if we have abandoned our faith. It may seem impossible to repent; but we should not overlook the mercy and loving heart of God. The LORD is always searching for the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Hear Job as he speaks to those who may think that all hope is lost on them: “There is hope for a tree that has been cut down; it can come back to life and sprout. Even though its roots grow old, and its stump dies in the ground, with water it will sprout like a young plant”. (Job 14:7-9). Look back from your past and look forward to where you are going and believe that with God all things are possible. No matter what your past has been, no matter how sharply you have departed from the faith, you can start anew. The time to have taken away from the faith is past and the time to repent and come back is now.
God is God of reconciliation and restoration. In repentance and reconciliation the Lord is willing and able to restore you. There is joy in heaven for every soul that repents and returns back to the Lord. One other way you can repent again and come back to faith is to ask help from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is your helper; he is by you to help you. So call upon him and you will experience the marvelous change in your life. The third way to repent again is to disassociate from your associates. Evil association corrupts godly minds. Ask the Holy Spirit to choose your friends for you. A wise saying says that birds of feather flock together. Seek the championship and association of those who talk and speak about things of salvation and heaven. Friends may reject and abandon you at this stage but don’t be bothered for the Lord Jesus wants to make you his close friend. Fourthly, begin to thirst for Christ and his presence. Know that He is able to do all things in your life. He is the Unchangeable Changer who can change you from sinner to a saint for with Him all things are possible. The Lord is concerned about you dear brothers and sisters. His arms are widely open to receive you back into his flock again; He has not given up on you.
You have wandered away and fallen out of faith for long. Ask the Lord for forgiveness for the length of time you have denied and rejected Him.
Your desire is to return back to the Lord. Invite the Holy Spirit to lead you back to the waiting arms of the Lord.
Pray for strength and grace to put the past behind you and look forward to a new beginning.
Healing and restoration come from the Lord. In sincerity of heart, ask the Lord to heal and restore you.
Tell the Lord to disperse your bad friends and associates and choose new and godly friends for you.
Thank and praise the Lord for what He is about to do in your life.
Pray for those whose faith has failed them but desire earnestly to repent and come back to the Lord.
Exercise: Make the WORD OF GOD your companion and seek the gathering of the children of God.
