Scripture Reading:  Deuteronomy 29:2

Very often, I receive text messages, mails or telephone calls from users of Daily Strength Devotional (DSD), saying, Brother, “I cannot understand anymore.  Things have simply turned inside-out and totally confusing.” Our reference today says, “The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children forever . . . ”  Beloved in Christ, when you do not understand what is happening in your life, as the scripture says, start with those things that have been revealed to you for your knowledge and edification.  One of the revealed truths is that God is good all the time and that his love for all who obey him is forever sure.  Hear the Psalmist, “But those who honour the LORD, His love lasts forever, and his goodness endures for all generations.” (Ps. 103:17)  Dear friend, you may be going through some difficulties now, but know that God does not deceive.  He cannot bless you today and curse you the next moment for the scripture says, “The Lord’s unfailing love and mercy still continue, fresh as the morning, as sure as sunrise.” (Lam. 3:22 – 23)

Dear friend, God decides to reveal certain things to us and some others He keeps away for our good.  For instance, unlike man, God cannot go about announcing our sinful nature to the public or open the pages of our faults for everyone to see.

Whatever we are is kept secret to Him, believing that we shall one day acknowledge His loving kindness and turn back to Him.  Hence, Beth Jones says, “If God keeps a secret from us, it is for our benefit and the benefit of others.”  All revealed truths about ourselves and God are meant to help us walk back in harmony with Him here on earth.  They are meant for us to develop unshakeable faith in Him, love Him and our neighbours.  This is why God reveals His character and will in His Word; so that all believers may know Him in faith, know what is good, fair, kind and gracious.  In His revealed truth, the believer learns what it means to live a life in the spirit.  Beloved, all revealed things belong to us and all these are contained in His Word.  Today, the Holy Spirit says to as many who seem to be confused of life that no situation or circumstance can be as strong as the Word of God.  No situation can defile the Word of God.  No situation can stand against the Word of God applied in faith.

Cardinal Newman says, “What is more elevating and transporting, than the generosity of heart which risks everything on God’s Word?”  H.R. Benson says, “Nothing is as bad as not trusting God.”St. Teresa of Avila summarizes today’s reflection in these words, “Consider seriously how quickly people change, and how little trust is to be had in them; and cleave fast unto God, who changeth not.”
