(Day 13 of the Fasting and Prayer Programme)
Scripture Reading: Job 19:25

Remember that Job was the object of Satan’s intense attacks. In the depths of his pain, stripped of everything: health, family, and friends and faced with financial ruin, he still proclaimed: “I know that my Redeemer lives…” Brethren, this 21 days fasting and prayer is a time to be convinced in your spirit that no matter what you are undergoing now your redemption is certain because Jesus our Redeemer lives. The metaphor of redemption includes the ideas of being loosened from a bond, being set free from captivity or slavery, buying back something lost or sold, exchanging something in one’s possession for something possessed by another, and ransoming. In prophet Isaiah’s tradition, Yahweh is called Israel’s Redeemer. Although most often redemption is related to God’s people, the concept of which was also applied to individuals in distress (Gen 48:16; 2 Sam 4:9; Job 19:25; Psalms 26:11; 49:15; 69:18; 103:4).
In the New Testament, Jesus is our Redeemer because He redeemed mankind from the bondage of sin and the devil by dying in our place, and thus paying the ransom, (Mat. 20:28, Gal. 3:13, Eph. 1:7, 1 Tim. 2:6, Tit. 2:14, 1 Pet.1:18,19, Rev. 5:9), through His obedience, Suffering, Death, and Resurrection.
Child of God, your redemption is in Christ Jesus. St. Paul says, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace, which He lavished upon us.” (Eph. 1:7-8; cf. Tit. 2:14; 1 Pet. 1:18-19; Matt.20:28) You have been redeemed, stand, therefore, on the finished work of Calvary in prayer to activate and enforce your redemption and its benefits in Christ Jesus.
Jesus, redeemed you from the captivity of sin; invoke the power of Jesus’ Blood to break loose from that sin that has been limiting you. Galatians 3:13 tells us that Jesus our Redeemer has redeemed us from every curse. Jesus our Redeemer who cleansed lepers, opened blind eyes and made the lame to walk has redeemed us from all forms of demon-induced diseases. Through the Blood of Jesus, we have the power to overcome the enemy (Rev. 12:11). Stand on the authority in the Blood and bind every evil bondage of sin, sickness, poverty, barrenness, marital problems, etc., for we have been redeemed from the powers of darkness. Hence, St. Paul says, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” (Colossians 2:15)
