Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 1:8

Apostle Paul, writing to the Church of Rome, recounted what the kingdom of God consisted when he affirmed that, “The kingdom of God is not meat and drink but righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.” (Romans 14:17) Our lead scripture today tells us the true nature of the kind of joy; an unspeakable joy. It is a joy that words cannot fully and completely convey. It is a joy that that the Holy Spirit bestows. It is a joy which emanates from one’s acceptance to follow and to serve Jesus without reservation. The Psalmist calls this joy, “The joy of God’s salvation.”(Psa.51:12)

Beloved in Christ, there is great indescribable and uncontainable joy in being saved. Indeed, the gospel is good news and as such if we truly and sincerely live out the Christian life, there will be no dull and sad moments because every situation becomes an opportunity for us to express faith in God and experience His superabundant love in our hearts. Yes, the heart of a Christian is always filled with that joy which surpasses all understanding which the world cannot give. Even when the believer is faced with difficult situations in which others think he will be consumed, he steps out victorious, filled with great joy.

The joy which we speak of is a contagious one, which radiates in all what the believer does such that neighbors and friends are forced to ask, “Why are you always happy?” It is this kind of joy that Loius Mariae de Montfort calls, “angelic sweetness”. This joy abides with you even in the midst of turbulence and trial; it is not dictated by the things of the world. It is the joy that is borne out of an incorruptible and indestructible hope; hope of seeing our Master Jesus Christ when He returns. This is the kind of joy that overwhelms you when you do the will of God. We rejoice, therefore, because of the living hope that the resurrection morning affords us, that is, the salvation of our souls. If we have it, we have all things. Nothing can steal our joy. It is our right as believers. It is our kingdom right as those who are saved and ransomed by the Blood of the Lamb. Our conditions cannot diminish it. Our status cannot increase it because only the Holy Spirit can bestow it on God’s adopted children.
