Scripture reading: Psalm 17:1-15
Verse8 of our scriptural reference today says, “Keep me as the apple of Thy eye. Hide me under the shadow of Your wings.” No part of the body is more precious, tender and carefully guarded than the eye. Of the eye, no portion is more particularly protected than the central apple, the pupil, or as the Hebrews call it ’the daughter of the eye’. Just as the Lord, has placed the eye in a well-protected position, so He has put heavenly structures in place to protect you who believe and trusts in Him. He is happy protecting us because we trust in His Son, Jesus Christ, and also, members of His mystical body. It was in realization of this that David cried out saying, “Hear a just cause, O LORD. Attend to my cry. Give ear to my prayers that do not come out of feigned lips (Ps. 17:1)Show your marvellous loving-kindness, You who save by Your right hand those who put their trust in You, from those who rise up against them.” (Ps. 17:7)
Beloved, day after day, the enemies of our souls congregate in their covens and in other dark places of this world with the sole agenda of how to destroy us. They enter into agreements and deadly contracts on how to deem the love of God in our hearts. They agree among themselves to afflict our spouse with low sperm count, ovarian cyst, fibroid, broken marriages, stagnation, etc. As the scripture says, a lot of evils are found in the domain of darkness. No wonder David also prayed, “Keep me as the apple of Your eye. Hide me under the shadow of Your wings from the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies who surround me.” (Ps. 17:8 —9). Of course in the eyes of Saul, David was a dog, a wile creature; but in the eyes of God he was loved, heavily protected as the
apple of God’s eyes.
Dear friend, today the Holy Spirit announces to you that God is very well aware of all that you are going through; because you are the apple of His eyes. Besides He has engraved your name on the palms of His hands (Isa 43:1). He says, “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are Mine. When you pass through waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through fire, you will not be burned, nor the flames set you ablaze.”“Since you are precious in My sight, you have been honoured. So I have loved you. Therefore, I will give men for you and people for your life.” (Isa. 43:1b —2, 4). All the Saints of God are dear to Him at all times; so never you think that you are alone. Hear Jeremiah Burroughs, “The Saints are weak and shiftless for themselves, but the Lord is so much the more, tender over them.” You are very important to God and He will never look away from you in your suffering. What God requires of you is persistence in prayers and praises; supported by unwavering love for, and faith in Him.
