Scripture Reading: Proverbs 14:30
High blood pressure has suddenly assumed alarming dimension. It results into sleepless night, fear, tension, and worse for diabetics. Many believers have allowed the failures, disappointment, job loss and setbacks they suffer make them suffers high blood pressure. Jesus did not promise us a trouble-free world. In John 16:3 He said, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” This means that the only key to having peace and sound mind is to give Jesus a place in your life and let him take control of the troubles that will come. Of course, they will come, but your defender – Jesus Christ is always available to calm the stormy sea in your life. The secret therefore is to make up your mind not to allow what is happening around you take over your mind and your sleep. Come to think of it, if you become worried to the point that you hardly sleep, does the worry change the problem? If you are not married and you are worried over this, will the worry bring you the husband or wife? The answer is no. What you should do is to always, deal with the weaknesses in your life and pray that God will bring his will to pass in your life. Once you have done this, smile at yourself and thank God for answering you.
Our scriptural reference today says, “Peace of mind makes the body healthy, but jealousy is like a cancer.” As Christians, we have the wickedness and envy of satan and his fallen angels to contend with. He would always say to us, “Has your God helped you as he promised he would do? Look, he does not love you, because if he do; your life cannot be in this level of trauma.” Beloved, do not allow such ministrations to take hold of your heart and mind. Avoid loneliness if you must overcome worry at the initial stage. Don’t dwell on your failure if you must have your peace back. Do not hold unto the wrong and the disappointment. Whatever, your past has been, see it as yesterday which you cannot bring back. Each time you ruminate over what happened in the past, your mind will be destabilized, you become restless, anger may well up in you. In tears, you may start thinking of how to avenge the evil done to you.
A friend of mine lost a bank job following the 2009/2010 retrenchment exercise. Been a married man, he told himself ‘worry will not put food on my family table’. ‘I need to pay bills’. In prayer, he asked the Lord for a leading on what to do. The Lord laid estate business in his mind. From his savings, he registered a company and started moving from one building site to the other to become the agent. Today, dear reader, he has two cars and he is building his own house.
Did you know that peace was what Jesus gave the disciples after his painful death on the cross. In John 20:19, the scripture says, “On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘peace be with you”. It is this same peace that was emphasized in John 14:27: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Leave your problems in the hands of the Lord and stop struggling on your own. When you allow Him a place in your heart He will calm the storm that shakes your peace.
