Scripture Reading:  1 John 3:14-18

Welcome dear friend, to today’s reflection. The great love of God for us is shown in the scripture as stated in John 3:16-17, “For God loved the world  so much that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.  For God did not send his son into the world to be its judge, but to be its savior.”  There is no greater love than this which the Lord has expressed to us.  The Lord wants you to live in love with each other and express this virtue he has shown and given to us in one another. Christ gave his life for us.  We too, then ought to give our lives for our brothers and sisters!  Rich people who see a brother or sister in need, yet close their hearts against them, cannot claim that they love God.  “My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love which shows itself in action.” (1 John 3:16-18).  Now the question is, do you show this love in action?

Hear this testimony of love in action by a medical doctor to a User of Daily Strength Devotional.  “In March 2013, I was diagnosed in Lagos for kidney infection and I was very much afraid I was going to close Christian Brother and confidant to join  me in prayers. And when we returned to Warri a few days after the diagnosis, I called the Medical Director of a Private Hospital.  He asked me to come immediately.  I went to see him with the report of the diagnosis.  He sent me for another test to confirm the first test report from Lagos and asked the medical laboratory to charge the cost to his account.  After the first and second phase of the medical treatment, I asked for the medical bills.  It was staggering sum of money.  What shocked me is that he asked me to go and not pay any money.  He placed me on some kind of diet for a while and scheduled me for regular check-up without cost” Today our dear brother is well and strong by the grace of God and remarkably by the love shown by the medical doctor.

The Holy Spirit wants to lay in your heart today, the virtue of love and giving. Christ laid his life for us that we shall live and be saved.  Your love in action will make somebody forget the pains of yesterday and live another thirty or more years of happy life. Your love one can put a smile on their faces and a new life in their being.  There are many children of the poor today hawking vegetables, pepper, crayfish, etc on the streets during school hours.  Beloved, do not look the other direction when you see them.  Your love can change their lives for the best.

Hear Thomas Kempis:  “Whatever is done out of love, be it ever so little and contemptible in the sight of the world, it becomes wholly fruitful.  For God weighs more the love out of which a man works, than the work which he does”  Yes the Lord weighed the love shown by the doctor in our story more than the work of the doctor.  The work of the doctor is a gift of knowledge but the love he showed is the nature of God.  The gifts of God are wonderful but it is the fruits that will take you to heaven.  There is a great reward for every bit of love you share to others.  Visit the hospitals and your heart will ache with pitiable situations that touch.  Let your love be put in action in these situations.  The secret of heaven is the love you show to the unloved.  The Holy Spirit urges you today, to offer sacrifice of love for Him. He is the Spirit of Love.  Let us conclude with the words of the Psalmist:  “I am weak and poor, O Lord, but you have not forgotten me.  You are my savior and my God – hurry to my aid!” (Psalm 40:17).  Those who put love in action, never lack.  The Lord remembers and saves them from all dangers.  He rewards them more abundantly.  Let your love for neighbor be shown in action.  God bless you as you love.
