Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 17:1-8
Verse 5 of our scriptural reference today says, “I will condemn the person who turns away from me and put his trust in man. He is like a bush in the desert, which grows in the dry wilderness, on salty ground where nothing else grows. Nothing good ever happens to him. But blessed is the person who puts his trust in me. He is like a tree near a stream and sending out roots to the water. It is not afraid when hot weather comes, because its leaves stay green; it has no worries when there is no rain; it keeps on bearing fruits.”Do you know that you sometimes behave like the politician who sees his or her god-father as a saviour, his helper and provider? Have you placed any person above God? Do you believe such persons more than God; either as a result of their wealth, their clout or influence? The result of failed promises by the politicians should teach you a moral lesson about not trusting in man. Does this mean that you should not trust your parents, husband, wife or even some genuine friends? No, the trust is not in our relationship with people or the capacity to believe what they tell us to be true. What God frowns at is to turn our heart to them as our source or hope of survival. This happened when we became carried away by what they say, thinking they have become close to us. Hear the Psalmist, “Some trust in their war – chariots and others in their horses, but we trust in the power of the Lord our God” (Psalm 20:7).
Beloved in Christ, it is possible that you may have been feeling despondent, unhappy and disappointed because your prayers have not been answered. It is possible that you may have been presenting a particular prayer intention for so many years; and nothing seem to be coming out of it. Some Christians may decide to lay their trust and confidence on man rather than continued faith and trust in who can give victory. If you do this, the scripture says that you shall be like a plant in the desert, without water or any form of nourishment. The effect is that you cannot succeed because God is angry with such a one. The Holy Spirit advises is at today’s reflection to understand that man cannot help us. Hear this, man only have blissful life if he lays his confidence and trust on the Lord and His promises. Do not allow your faith in God to be shaken. Trust in Him, depend on Him and claim his promises as the ‘Amen’.
Hold God to be true above all else, trust Him above everyone else, when men are looking down, always look up, for God holds the very key to your life.
- Thank God for today’s reflection
- In Psalm 34:18, the scripture says, “The Lord is near to those who are discouraged and saves those who have lost all hope.” Father, come to my aid concerning the following (mention them)
- Father, I humbly ask that you grant me the grace of unshakable faith in you, in Jesus name
- By the power in your name, O Lord Jesus Christ, I decree that no works of Satan shall prosper in my life anymore
- I renounce every worldly attachment, soul-tie in the name of Jesus Christ
- I break every covenant with the gods of my father’s house, mother’s house and ancestral lineage in the name of Jesus Christ
Exercise: Encourage someone with today’s reflection
