Scripture Reading:  Psalms 42:1

A heart yearning for God is a heart seeking God. The heart that seeks God will be glad. Because that heart will find love, joy, peace and happiness. This is because God is the Source and Giver of all of these gifts. Every good gift comes from Him. These gifts are higher than all other gifts. And the ultimate culmination is happiness in this life and rest in His peace in the next world  to come.

Growth in spiritual life comes through a heart that longs for God. If a heart does not long for God, it is difficult for such a heart to find God. For scripture says, “If you seek Him you will find Him.” (Jer 29:13) When you find God, you find all the good for the reason that God is goodness in Himself. All good gifts come from Him. (James 1:17)

We must at no point in time stop desiring, for to stop hoping is a sign of hopelessness. As Christians we are people of hope. We are people of the resurrection. We cannot afford to be hopeless in situations. Our sure anchor at all times must be the longing expectation to always be in communion with God. If the desire for God is not there, communion with God is unattainable. By this we mean it is unachievable or impossible.

It is important to note that one does not appreciate what is not of value to him. Dearly beloved, how much do you value God in your life? Do you really treasure God? For to value and treasure God implies that you price God highly; that God is superior to every other thing that exists. Is this really the case with your own life or otherwise? For we see in our world, today, Christians whose confessions or lifestyles, expressed daily, asserts that there is no God and so have no need for God in their lives. Do you belong to these category of believers, who are in church but their lifestyles deny the love and knowledge of God? Hear the Psalmist in 14:1 and 53:1 say: “It is the fool who will say in his/her heart that there is no God above.”

I realize that in this life, men and women struggle to attain material riches but they value less the things of God. Some in their ignorance about godly affairs think that they can buy God, the men and women of God and godly blessings. This reality is in triumph in our churches today. Such that some who are materially poor would begin to think that God is not affordable simply because the rich buy their places in the house of God. Beloved, is this the true longing for God? Absolutely, no! True longing for God consist in yearning for God to come into your life and to be totally in control. In this way, you come to accept Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour. When you accept Jesus as the Saviour and Lord of your life, your life will manifest His glory and your soul will continue to yearn for Him as the deer pants for running stream to drink so as to quench its thirst. John Piper, for over twenty five years now, always declared the truth that God is most glorified in us when we are satisfied in Him
