Scripture Reading: James 2:8

According to Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta ”We can cure physical diseases with medicine but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love. There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more who are dying for a little love. Let us not be satisfied with just giving money. Money is not enough, money can be got, but they need your hearts to love them. So spread love everywhere you go.

Love is the royal law. (James 2:8) Love is the law of the Kingdom. It is very sad that many Christians do not understand this. The greatest commandment in the word of God is the command to love. (Matt 22:36-40) This is why the heart of the Mother Church is love towards God, all men (our neighbours), and the world at large. In the Old Testament, the people could only enjoy the blessings, goodness and protection of God, as they were diligent to obey the Law of Moses. This law consisted of the Ten Commandments, and other numerous laws that governed Israel as a people under God. If anyone broke the law, the judgment was severe, and in most cases had fatal consequences. In the New Testament, however, Jesus brought a new law, which is a summary of all the old laws given through Moses. This new law is the law of love. It is the royal law – the law that runs heaven.  And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” (John13:34) (GNB) It is sad that many of us do not lay this to heart,  yet we want the blessings of God. Anytime you are not walking in love, you become a lawbreaker and a transgressor. When someone breaks the law he is arrested and persecuted as a criminal. This is why many suffer so much. This is why Daily Strength family members are advised and encouraged to form what we call the Daily Strength Charity Groups with other users around you.  You are required to create time to visit hospitals, prisons, orphanages, etc., at least once every quarter. Beloved, apart from evangelization, charity is one of the missions of DSD. All users must therefore desire and aspire to be agents of love. When we walk in love, we walk in God and are secured.

Lack of forgiveness, strife, hatred, malice, bitterness, divorce, etc., all come in when love goes out. But the love of God conquers them all and opens the door for us to enjoy the glories of the kingdom. Let us determine in our hearts today to obey the royal law – LOVE. Blessed Mother Teresa says, ”For love to be real, it must costit must hurtmust empty us of self.”  St. Augustine rounds up today’s reflection thus: “I will not live an instant that I do not live in love. Whoever loves does all things without suffering, or, suffering, loves his suffering.”
