Scripture Reading: Psalm 16:5-11

Welcome to this brand new day and a brand new year. It pleased the Lord, God Almighty to graciously usher us into this New Year; not necessarily because of our faithfulness or commitment to Him, but because of His love and mercy to us His handmaid. Hence David called on the Lord saying,” ……… You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing. Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.” (Psa. 16:2, 5)   Aware of the necessity of having the Lord as our God and All, St. Pio prayed thus: “Stay with me Jesus, for it is getting late and the day is coming to a close, and life passes; death, judgment and eternity approaches. It is necessary to renew my strength so that I will not stop along the way and for that I need You. It is getting late and death approaches, I fear the darkness, the temptations, the dryness the cross the sorrow. Oh how I need you my Jesus in this night of exile!” These statements, clearly show the degree of love and total dependence of these Saints to God Almighty. His will was their peace and they depended on Him in all things.

Beloved in Christ, it is human nature to make our own plans and then ask the Lord to bless them. This may have been our attitude in the out gone year. This year the Holy Spirit reminds us, on this first day of this year to seek God’s will first; because by constantly putting God first in all things, we gain insight that will help us make right decisions and live the way God desires. Communicating with God allows Him to counsel us and give us wisdom.  David said, “I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken (V.8). With this, David revealed the unique sense of security felt by all who depend on God for everything that concerns them. Though God does not exempt believers from the day to day circumstances of life, they are confident of God’s protective power over them. The unbeliever on the other hand, live with a sense of hopelessness of life and confusion over their own purpose on earth. This is the dilemma which the unbelievers have to grapple with.

Realizing that we are sinners and lack strength to meet up with God’s standards, the Holy Spirit invites us to start our 21 days fasting program on Wednesday the 2nd of January, 2019. During this time, we shall heed to our Lord’s command to “GO SELL EVERYTHING AND FOLLOW ME”. Take it seriously and experience the presence of God in your life.
