Scripture Reading:  Revelation 22:7

Welcome to the first day of March, the month of God’s mercy.

Every Sunday as people go for Sunday services and to the Mass, you see people carrying their bibles as part of what is required for the spiritual outing.  In fact, it appears that the bible is what makes going to church on Sunday complete fashion.  But today the good Lord wants to teach us the best way to carry the bible or the more meaningful way to carry the Bible about.  The good Lord is not happy about how His children live a life that contradicts what the bible they carry teaches.  On one of my trips to the Island in Lagos State Nigeria, I saw two sets of people from different religions studying their sacred texts as we were all trapped in the traffic of the Third Mainland Bridge.  One of them was an Indian woman carefully studying their sacred text and another was a Muslim man he was studying the Koran.  In fact the message was very clear, that why these ones carry their sacred texts is because they understand that there are hidden knowledge in them that edify their body, soul and spirit.  It was not for fun.  They understand that there are hidden treasures of knowledge that make them outstanding.  Dear Child of God, the Lord is asking you today, “My child how are you carrying your bible?”  Is your lifestyle influenced by the word of God?  Are you living by what the word of God says?  Do you carry out your daily activities in obedience to the WORD?  The Psalmist realized the useful guidance of the word of God as he goes about his daily affairs in Psalm 119:105, he says, “Your word is a lamp to guide me and a light for my path.” The word of God should direct and guide what we do daily.  Every aspect of our human activities must conform to the word of God.  Our social, economic, political, spiritual and moral lives must not fall short of what the scripture teaches.

A little acid test of carrying the bible: Are you living in an unforgiveness?  What does the bible teach about forgiveness?  Are you living in immorality?  What are the biblical teachings about immorality?  Are you a drunkard? What is the bible teaching about getting drunk?  Are you planning to destroy a life through a charm or any other destructive device?  Do you care about what the bible says about killing?  Are you seeking solutions to life’s challenges through ungodly channels?  What does the bible teach about serving false gods?

By the time your lifestyle is modified and modeled by the word of God, then you will become the LIVING BIBLE. Your life will be the bible which people preach.  You will become the bible that others read.  Dear Child of God, if you want to be wise, if you want to be great, if you want to be outstanding in your generation, if you want to be successful, if you want to be renewed day after day then start now to live by the biblical principles.  Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka was able to wage the bullets of the gun with the bible because he knows what the bible says and the power that lies therein.  Those who know their God do exploit. In the same vein those who know their bibles know their God and they are overcomers, great conquerors.  Are you obeying the scriptures?  Let your answer be in the affirmative and the Good Lord will bless you.

Prayer Points:

  1.  Take this song:  “I am standing on the word of God, the word of God is power, I am standing on the word of God, the word of God is strength.”
  2. O Lord, help me not to be only carrier of the word of God, but also the doer of the word of God.
  3. Pray that the word of God will begin to burn in our hearts as we hear it daily.
  4. Lord banish of ignorance of the word of God in my life.
  5. Dear Lord, grant me the endless desire to study your word.  The wisdom and understanding to get the message.  The grace to put it into practice daily in every aspect of my life so that I may yield the desired fruits expected of me in Jesus name. Amen.

Exercise:  Any time you finish studying the scriptures, ask these three questions about the passage you have studied: What does the passage say?  What does the passage mean?  What am I going to do about what the passage says and means?
