Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Scripture Reading: Luke 1:45-46
Today we celebrate a faithful disciple whose life on earth was a testimony of miracles and faithfulness from birth till her departure from the earth. As we share the joy of our beloved sister and mother, Blessed Virgin Mary, we are called to magnify the Lord with her.
Someone told Mother Teresa of a family of several children who had no food. She prepared some rice and went to the family. They were clearly in great need. Receiving the food, the mother of the home divided it into two parts; wrapping a portion for her Muslim neighbours and disappeared. When she reappeared Mother Teresa asked her, “Where did you go?” She answered, “To my neighbors who are Muslims. They also have no food.” The situation was inspiring to St. Mother Teresa and it also magnified the Lord. Mary heard from Gabriel that her cousin Elizabeth, who was older, past childbearing age, was also expecting. Just like the woman who received the gift of rice, she magnified the greatness of the Lord as she “set out to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah where she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.” (Luke 1:39) One may not be able to create the greatness of God, but can magnify it. One can expand, enlarge, enhance, increase, amplify, and intensify God’s greatness through gratitude and generosity.

Prayer Points:
1. Let us pray and praise God in the words of Mary: “My soul now glorifies, the Lord who is my Saviour, Rejoice for who am I, that God has shown me favour. The world shall call me blessed, and ponder on my story, in me is manifest God’s greatness and His glory. For those who are His friends and keep His laws most holy, His mercy never ends, and He exalts the lowly. But by His power, the great, the proud, the self-conceited, the kings who sit in state, are humbled and defeated. He feeds the starving poor, He guides His holy nation, fulfilling what He swore, long since in revelation. Glorify with me, the Lord who is my Saviour, one Holy Trinity, forever and forever.
