Day 1 of 21 Days Programme

Scripture Reading Matthew 18:9-20

Beloved as we embark on this year’s 2-day fasting and prayers the Holy Spirit desires us to explore the power of corporate prayer, for indeed there is power in corporate prayer. Our 21~day fasting and prayer programme though has a private dimension, but it is majorly a corporate prayer/intercession. In 2 Chronicles 20:14-30, when trouble loomed, the first thing that, Jehoshaphat did was to turn attention to God and proclaim a fast throughout Judah. (2 Chron. 20:3) People came from all around to support their king in prayer and fasting. In the same vein Daily Strength Devotional calls on all her users to set aside 21-day (starting from 5 to 25 January, 2017) to support each other through fasting and prayer.

Another phrase to describe “corporate prayer” is ‘agreement prayer’ . Corporate prayer is not only important but it is essential for the growth of the church. Corporate prayer is a little more than just praying together, it is being in agreement with each other in prayer. Amos 3:3 says, “Can two walk together unless they agreed?” You cannot be in agreement with someone if you don’t know what they are praying for, so in this 21-day programme, the Daily Strength devotional team will provide the prayer subject/point/request for each day , and each user is requested to pray accordingly and earnestly.

Beloved, it was the corporate prayer of believers in Acts 12 that brought deliverance for Peter. Leviticus 26:8 says, “Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.” Deuteronomy 32:30 says, “How could one chase a thousand, And two put ten thousand to flight, unless their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had given them up?”

Corporate prayer creates the unity and love which pleases the Lord to manifest His glory and power in such a manner that we might not have experienced in our private prayers. On their own, each individual musical instrument may make a wonderful sound, however, when all the instruments play or symphonize together, they form one beautiful harmonious sound carrying with it much deeper emotion and meaning. The same happens when we agree or symphonize together in corporate prayer, When all of us pray together at the same time for the same thing, the power of the Holy Spirit is released in a much greater way, bringing swift breakthroughs and answers to prayer. A Christian author describes the power of corporate prayer thus: “An atomic bomb is powerful because of the chain reaction catalyzed the nuclear fusion of atoms. On their own, the atoms are not that powerful, but, when fused together, they produce a reaction that results in the release of tremendous amounts of energy. the same way, our power in prayer increases exponentially when we join with other believers and agree together in prayer.” Corporate prayer takes place when at least two or three believers are present in one place, their unity of faith and prayer of such a degree that when they harmonize or symphonize together in agreement with God’s Will and His Word, God intervenes and brings to pass the specific request. As members of the Daily Strength Devotional family, let us seek the Lord corporately and apply the principles of corporate prayer diligently and accurately during this 21-day fasting and prayer, with the assurance that “If two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.”
