Scripture Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:17

Our Scriptural reading today calls us to pray without ceasing. Praying without ceasing means to be dependent on God for every good; we have to feel this dependence at all times. It means always being in the spirit of prayer and prevailing in it. To prevail means to be successful in the face of difficulty, to overcome and triumph. Prevailing prayer pushes right through all difficulties and obstacles, drives back all the opposing forces and secure the realization of the will of God. Prevailing prayer is continuous offensive spiritual battle till victory is won. It is the bombardment of the camp of the enemy, using God’s offensive weapons. Such prayers must, therefore, be fervent, earnest and passionate.

Some Christians are lacking in spiritual vitality, as such, they cannot stick to prayer unceasingly. Some of us have gone so weak spiritually that we cannot travail in prayer. Those who are carnally minded have a thousand and one excuses why they cannot prevail in prayer.  We need the Holy Spirit to ignite in us the hunger to prevail in prayer, to revive our quest to spend more time in prayer, to create in us the passion to sacrifice other things in order to pray more. The evil one doesn’t want you to prevail in prayer and that is why he injects into us the spirit of weakness, sleepy eyes, lukewarmness and even ill health. Daniel’s prayer was granted, but for 21 days his answers was delayed by the prince of Persia. Dear friend in Christ, God requires that we mount up serious prayer campaign using his dangerous weapon during these 21 days, to push back, terminate and destroy permanently the works of Satan in our lives. Hear this, “Today, I give you authority over nations and kingdoms to uproot and to pull down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant”( Jer. 1:10). Beloved soldier of Christ, we shall execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishment upon the people; bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints….” ( Ps. 149:7-9)These are our mandate during this 21days of fasting and prayers.. So you learn to prevail before God, for God may test your earnestness and the depth of your desire. Jesus tested the Greek woman whose daughter was suffering from demonic possession in Matthew 15:21-28. The woman prevailed in her prayer before Jesus and her daughter received total deliverance. In Gethsemane, Jesus prevailed in prayer until his father sent an angel to minister strength to him. It was the spirit of prevailing prayer that prompted prophet Isaiah to say in Isaiah 62: 1, 6-7 thus “For Zion’s sake I will not keep silent, for Jerusalem’s sake I will not remain quiet, I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem; they will never be silent day or night. You who call on the Lord, give yourselves no rest,  and give him no rest till he establishes Jerusalem and makes her the praise of the earth,” (NIV).. Like Daniel of old we are going to prevail in prayer for 21 days starting from tomorrow.
