Scripture Reading: Ephesians: 6:10- 18
As Christians, we are engaged in spiritual conflicts with Satan, the master of evil. This spiritual conflict is described as warfare of faith. (2 Cor. 4:10) that continue until we pass on to the life to come. No wonder St. Padre Pio de Pietrelcina, says, “The life of a Christian is nothing but a perpetual struggle against self, there is no flowering of the soul to the beauty of its perfection except at the price of pain.”
Beloved in Christ, Satan is a master strategist whose main desire for Christians is to seek their downfall by his various evil schemes. Some of such ‘wiles’ of Satan is to promote division within the body of Christ, within families and even in organizations. In fact, the life of pain and trauma that man faces on earth are direct consequences of the evil actions of Satan. Just like St. Pio Said, “Man is continually in pain!” Satan causes man to sometimes disbelieve God and His unfailing promises; causes discouragement, temptation to sin, and compromise of conscience, unwillingness to forgive, create fear, remove our focus away from Jesus and His love, and fill us with spiritual weakness. Satan is so diabolical that he enters into men and takes possession of their actions. To some he deposits the spirit of witchcraft, to others marine spirits, others, stubbornness and disobedience. Some he makes mad outright, just to disgrace man and the dignity given to him by God. Dear friend in Christ, Satan is wicked. He is evil and a destroyer. No wonder the Scripture says,“The thief (Satan) comes only in order to steal, kill and destroy.” (John 10:10a) Today, beloved in Christ, the Holy Spirit instructs us to take our stand against the schemes of the devil. Every believer can take confidence in the fact that victory has been secured by Christ Himself through His death on the Cross. Remember that Jesus waged a fierce and triumphant battle against Satan, disarmed the evil powers (Colossians. 2:15) led captives out of his captivity, power, and authority. So Child of God, you are already redeemed from Satan’s power and dominion if you believe in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on Calvary. (Colossians. 1: 13-14).
Today, believers are engaged in a spiritual warfare that are waged by the power of the Holy Spirit. St. Paul says,“For if you live according to your human nature, you are going to die; but if by the Spirit you put to death your sinful action, you will live.” (Romans. 8:13). By the power of the Spirit we are able to stand against the sinful desires within us (1 Pet. 2:11), against the ungodly pleasures of the world and temptation of every sort (Matt 13:22). To be continued tomorrow!
