Scripture Reading: 2 Kings 17:9
Let us begin today’s reflection with the lamentation from Ezekiel 8:2 (NKJV), “… Son of Man, have you seen what the elders of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the room of his idols? For they say, ‘The Lord does not see us, the Lord has forsaken the land.’” Isaiah 29:15 also went further to lament, “Ha! You who hide a plan too deep for the Lord, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, ‘Who sees us? Who knows us?’” Gradually, we are degenerating into having our conscience feel alright once we have been able to operate a sinful life that is hidden from everyone. We have gradually gotten to the level which the devil wants, that is, when some sinful things we engage in, are guarded as our pet, we do everything possible to hide it away from others. When the word of God is preached for us to forsake our sins, we are simply comfortable because we have been able to manage the life of sin in secret. The message of repentance will not make any meaning to us. Today the good Lord admonishes us to eschew every sin we have made private, because though they are private and secret, the consequences are often felt publicly.
Dear child of God, what is that sin that you know that of a truth, God is seeing you, but by denying the truth, we think that He is not seeing us? We must make conscious effort to go through the commandments of God and see if there is anyone of them we are secretly operating against. Dear Child of God, what are those things you do in school that you hide from your parents? Who is that girl or boy, man or woman that is secretly in your life and is devouring your life of purity and your relationship with God? Are you still battling with masturbation? Are you still secretly stealing from your master’s purse? Do you still have some inimical trade secrets known to you alone? What is that secret sinful dealings you think is known to you alone? Beloved in Christ, flee all forms of operations in the dark because at that level, Satan has just convinced you that all is well when all is treading the path of doom. Let us be free from all wrong doings. Secret sins bring disgrace at the point of blessings. (See Genesis 49:3-7)
