Scripture Reading: Genesis 3:1-2

Just like Satan went to Eve, he comes into our hearts to dialogue with us.  Today, we are encouraged not to even enter into dialogue with him, rather Thomas A’ Kempis charges us to dialogue with Jesus our Saviour at all times, with his reflection titled, “THE INWARD CONVERSATION OF CHRIST WITH THE FAITHFUL SOUL” thus: “I WILL hear what the Lord God will speak in me.”  Blessed is the soul who hears the Lord speaking within her, who receives the word of consolation from His lips. Blessed are the ears that catch the accents of divine whispering, and pay no heed to the murmurings of this world. Blessed indeed are the ears that listen, not to the voice which sounds without, but to the truth which teaches within. Blessed are the eyes which are closed to exterior things and are fixed upon those which are interior. Blessed are they who penetrate inwardly, who try daily to prepare themselves more and more to understand mysteries. Blessed are they who long to give their time to God, and who cut themselves off from the hindrances of the world.  Consider these things, my soul, and close the door of your senses, so that you can hear what the Lord your God speaks within you. “I am your salvation,” says your Beloved. “I am your peace and your life. Remain with Me and you will find peace. Dismiss all passing things and seek the eternal. What are all temporal things, but snares? And what help will all creatures be able to give you if you are deserted by the Creator?” Leave all these things, therefore, and make yourself pleasing and faithful to your Creator so that you may attain true happiness.”

A sister laments, ‘I am 38 years old, no suitors, no job; rejection from virtually everyone around me.  I feel like taking my life, perhaps to go and rest.” That was Satan conversing with our sister. Thank God that after counselling, she came alive again, loving and trusting in God’s providence. This is just one out of the many conversations that Satan drags us into. They are all aimed at displeasing God and denying His love for us. Such voices of satan can also come to us through our friends; A brother narrated how a cousin of his introduced him to the act of masturbation. So dear child of God, “learn to despise external things, and give yourself to the internal and you will see the kingdom of God come within you.”   DO NOT GIVE ATTENTION TO SATAN’S GISTS, DON’T EVEN CONSIDER THEM!  Each time you hear voices wanting you to do one evil or the other simply say as the Lord said, GET BEHIND ME SATAN.
