Scripture Reading: Matthew 14:25-29

There are waters of life that we need to walk upon as people of faith. Are you one of the Christian brothers or sisters sinking in the waters of alcoholism, sexism, stealing or robbery, etc., instead of walking on it?

Inside the type of water that Jesus and Peter walked on, there were sea creatures of all kinds. There were fishes, alligators, crocodiles, hippopotamus, snakes, etc. Inside this body of water are very harmful and non harmful creatures. Hear this, beloved in Christ, none of these harmful creatures was able to raise its head as Jesus and His servant Peter took a stroll on the water. In fact, they all bowed their heads in obedience to the word of God in Phil.2:10. The scripture says, “And so in honour of the name of Jesus all beings in heaven on earth, and in the world below will fall on their knees.” They were subjected to both Jesus and Peter, for both walked on them. So, shall it be for you in Jesus name.

Dear friends in Christ, Jesus beckons on you to step out of the boat, fix your gaze on Him and the challenges of life will bow before you. Nobody who ever looks unto Jesus for salvation, defence and guidance goes away disappointed or defeated. You can only suffer shame and defeat when you remove your gaze from Him, the King of glory. Beloved, the waters of life can be very challenging, and at times cause the loss of life; but with Jesus’ outstretched hands, victory is certain. Two things happen whenever we walk on the waters of life. We either walk freely or sink. When we sink it means that our confidence in Him who called us is shaky, but when we stand and are victorious then we have trusted in the One who is well able to deliver us.

No wonder St. Paul says, “Finally build up your strength in union with the Lord and by means of His mighty power. Then when the evil day comes, you will be able to resist the enemy’s attacks; and after fighting to the end, you will still hold your ground.” (Eph. 6:10,13b)

How much do you trust in God? What are the muddy waters on which you are still walking? Do not be scared or troubled, but simply trust in the Father and His Son Jesus Christ and victory shall be yours. (Jn. 14:1) You must therefore make effort to walk away from these muddy waters. Listen to the word of the Saviour. He says to you today, “Come’’. Go right away to Him like Peter did. But do not be like Peter who started sinking because of doubt. Hold your trust and believe in Him and do not waver at all. Hear this, Peter actually stepped beyond where any human being can ordinarily step because the word of Jesus came forth to him. In the same vein, the word of Jesus shall hold you up in a naturally difficult situation. Many believers today prefer to conclude that whatever they are going through is the plan of God for them. So they remain inside the boat like the other disciples. God’s plan is not for us to suffer in the hands of Satan and his demons. Not at all! Some believers resort to seek refuge outside of Christ. In doing that, they walk deeper into the muddy waters of life. The ability to walk on water like this comes from the power of God. This is only made possible if one trusts in God that He can do this. If you do not trust in God that He can carry you through while walking on the waters of life, it will be an impossibility for you. And if you get out of the boat, and begin to walk on water at the Lord’s command, do not doubt. If you doubt, you will begin to sink and get drowned and if not rescued, you will die. So, it is very much important to cry out to the Lord like Peter whenever you see yourself getting drowned. Cry out: “Lord help me”. Note that, Jesus is ready now to lift you up. Now, cry to Him. He says to you, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isa. 41:10)

Phil 3: 17 —4: 1; Ps 122: 1-2. 3-4ab. 4cd-5; (R.1); Accl 1 Jn 2:5; Lk 16: 1-8

Prayer Points:

  1. Sing this song of assurance: “My hope is built on nothing less…”
  2. Step out of the boat now. Look at Jesus standing opposite you. Then tell Him all your challenges. (Take very seriously and with faith.)
  3. Make this declaration: “I have the key of the kingdom, and whatever I bind on earth is bound in heaven and whatever I loose on earth is loosed in heaven. I therefore bind totally (mention the powers fighting you) in the name of Jesus. Pray for all who are sinking in the waters of life that God will lift them up like Peter. So that they will not sink.

Exercise: Resolve to start combating one negative habit in your life as from today and look for someone trustworthy to guide you.
