Scriptural Reading: 2 Kings 6:8-23

According to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, an enemy is seen in three degree. First, an enemy is one who hates, acts or speaks ill of you. Second, an enemy can be the country that you are fighting with in war. Lastly, an enemy can be whatever that prevents and harms you from success or being successful. We can group enemies into two classes: household/internal enemy and external enemy.

Household enemies are very dangerous; they destroy faster than external enemies. Household enemies are usually found around the family circle. Joseph the dreamer is a classic example of victim of household enemy. Joseph was sold into slavery by his own brothers. Absalom the son of King David intended to drive his father out of his throne. Judas Iscariot betrayed and sold his master.

There are four kinds of enemies you must dread; they are all around us and they are; Reducers, Exploiters, Neutralizers and the Killers. These have their different functions. Reducers are responsible for setting people back either in business or in marriage. Exploiters take whatever you have in you no matter how small it might be. Neutralizers don’t remove, rather they promote stagnation in the lives of their victims. Lastly Killers terminate visions and missions and destinies. Theirs is to kill the dreams and goals of their victims. They try to put to an end something that God has deposited in their victims.

Our scriptural passage today says that the eyes of Elijah’s servant were open and he saw that those standing for them were far greater than their enemies put together. The Lord is assuring us again that He that is in us is far greater than he that is in the world. (1John. 4:4)  You do not need to be afraid when you are surrounded by your enemies, no matter their numbers and strength. Yes the Lord has permitted them to gather, to plan, but He has not permitted them to touch your essence. They may plan against you, against your children, against your family, against your progress, against your business, against your education, but that evil plan will not succeed against you in the name of Jesus. What is that thing that has

been troubling you; that thing that keeps you awake in the middle of the night? Child of God, God is speaking to you today, “fear not for I am with you.” Do not be blinded with your situation, do not be yoked with your fears, for the greatest tragedy that can befall a man is for him to have sight but not see. The angels are all around you, for the Bible says, “For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways” (Psalms 91:11) Fear not, for “no weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me, declares the Lord.” (Isaiah 54:17) Have faith in God’s word.
