Scripture Reading: John 15:26-27
Dear friends in Christ, Pentecost changes lives. Pentecost enables us to be powerful instruments of the transforming grace of God. Just as on the day of Pentecost, we need the Holy Spirit to come and light our fire and give us the courage and power to do things which will bring glory to God.
The Pentecost story is filled with memorable details: strong driving winds that shook the house where the disciples were staying; tongues of fire that suddenly appeared; the bold fearless preaching of disciples who had been locked away in fear; a famous sermon delivered by Peter; the conversion of 3000 people in a single day. The first Pentecost must have been quite an event!!
All of these powerful, almost spectacular events and signs are recounted as part of that first Christian Pentecost. The Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples, filling them with the presence of God and empowering them to give bold witness to the presence and power of the risen Christ. It was a memorable and impressive beginning for the apostolic proclamation of the Good News. For us today, we are in need of the Holy Spirit, our divine helper.
Child of God, how do we discover the presence and action of the Holy Spirit in our lives? How do we get into touch with this Spirit of God given to us in Baptism and strengthened at Confirmation? Being filled (controlled and empowered) by the Holy Spirit by faith can be the most important discovery of your Christian life.
As we conclude today’s reflection, let us pray: Lord, send forth Your Spirit in my life and set me on fire with the Gifts of Your Spirit. Holy Spirit, I invite You to take possession of my soul. Come Holy Spirit, come and transform my life in the name of Jesus. Lord, set my heart ablaze for You.

1. Heavenly Father, my life is weak and seems to be failing and falling apart and in my heart I know that this is due to a long-term neglect of You and Your ways. Forgive me I pray and help me to return into true fellowship with You once again. Lord we pray that You will revive the hearts of all believers, especially those who have left their first love, and have become involved in a distorted gospel, fallen into legalism or become lukewarm towards You, and draw each one back into a right relationship with You and with each other. Revive Your people we pray and turn the hearts of all Your people back to Yourself, in Jesus name we pray.
2. Pray as the Spirit directs you.
Exercise: Take the prayer by Cardinal Mercier in “Amen: It is Done”.
