Scripture Reading: John 1:5
Simply defined, darkness is the absence of light. And from the interesting story of creation, we know that darkness preceded light, and as one Christian writer noted: “In every fundamental issue of life, this order continues; moments of darkness always come before light.” A perfect natural phenomenon that shows this fact is the beginning of every new day; it starts with darkness and then light follows. Interestingly, no matter the depth of the preceding darkness, when light comes, there will remain no tell-tale of the conquered darkness. The same way it is for us. Darkness befell man owing to the fall of our first parents. Hence, the Scripture declares: “There is no one who is righteous, not one,” and so, for all, sin came first. Darkness presided over our thoughts and hearts but then God acted by giving us Christ Jesus. Jesus Christ announces in John 8:12 that, “I am the light of the world, whoever follows me will have the light of life, and will never walk in darkness.” It is in following Jesus that a man is delivered from darkness (everything that satan has to offer). Any path of life that is contrary to the path of Christ, no matter how attractive and sophisticated, is the path of darkness and will lead to stumbling. Beloved as you follow the Master’s foot print, step by step each day, light shines on you and dispels darkness. As you take decisions of life in the light of His words, no matter how difficult it may be to do so, light shines over your life. The first victory over darkness is to accept into your heart the Light (Christ), who also is the Author of light. John1:9 says, “This true Light gives light to every man coming into the world.” The continuous internal struggles men experience, are as a result of the residing darkness in their nature. But a man who deliberately decides to receive, and then walk with the Light of the world, would live victoriously, having already conquered darkness through Christ. Beloved, the light shines in darkness, and darkness cannot comprehend it. This day, resolve in your heart to allow the unconquerable Light to shine in you and through you. Beloved, don’t let darkness shine, let light shine.
