THURSDAY DAY 28
(DAY 2 OF THE 3-DAY FASTING / PRAYERS)
Scripture Reading: Psalm 34:19
Yesterday, the Holy Spirit opened the eyes of our mind to the word of God that said, “There are many raging storms in the life of believers.” Many Christians are faced with lots of threats and temptations which come in various ways, shades and dimensions. In such cases it could seem as if heaven is shut to our prayers and cries. No wonder the Scripture says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”(Psalm 34:19)
Share this true story with me: A Lecturer in one of the Nigerian universities had a fatal motor accident which claimed his wife and three children. When he regained consciousness after three days, and learnt of the death of his wife and children he was devastated; but the grace of God was readily available. Believing in God and living righteously will not keep us from trouble and suffering in this life (Job 1:1-11). On the contrary, commitment to God often brings testing and persecution. God has ordained that we must go through many hardships to enter His Kingdom (Acts 14:22). It is worthy of note that when His purpose in permitting affliction is accomplished, He then delivers us from them either by direct, supernatural intervention in this life (Heb. 11:33-35) or by victorious death and transference to the life hereafter. This is a hard reality but the summary is that the righteous can never be left unattended to by the Lord. Beloved, the Holy Spirit says to us today, therefore, that there is no cause for alarm. He assures us that many may be the afflictions of the righteous, the Lord, God Almighty is well able to deliver His own completely. That’s why the Psalmist concludes, “From the throne of God, He laughs at our adversaries.” (Psa. 2:4) Hear this, “Though all nations (foes) encompass us about and even surround us like bees, in the name of the Lord they are destroyed.” (Psa. 118:10) So beloved, though we face trials and temptations in this life, let us have confidence in our God. He is able to deliver us permanently. God is able to heal, first: because of His eternal and everlasting love towards us. Second: he assures us that all the tons of prayers and lamentations are in His store house in heaven. Beloved none of your sincere and heartfelt prayers can be lost. Third: He demonstrates that He is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Alpha and Omega and nothing is hard for Him. Finally that His Holy name may be glorified. What we need to do beloved, is first to renew our trust and confidence in Him (Psa. 118:9). Second: seek earnestly to dwell in His secret place so that we can abide under the shadow of His protection. Dwelling in God’s secret place means dwelling in His word and humbly presenting your case or petitions to Him in prayer and supplication with thanksgiving.
- Burst into a song of praise to Him who is able to set you free.
