Scripture Reading: Hebrews 8:26-28
On Tuesday, in the word of God to us, we were warned to be cautious of the reality of hellfire always. Today it is worthwhile to address very sensitive issues about hellfire, things that try to rob us of feeling horror for hellfire.
WATERING DOWN OF HELLFIRE: The message about the children of God getting worried about losing their lives eternally is totally watered down. It is hardly a topic for discussion. It is no longer a retreat or revival topic due to too many arguments, wrong philosophies and theologies about hell. That is why you can find someone much scared of losing his life on earth than losing it in hell and suffering eternally.
FAMILIARITY WITH GOD AND PRESUMPTION: Many of us believers who are in church now believe that we have done so much for God, and that if God does not offer us heaven, He is partial but a further probe into our lives show lack of the basic necessity for heaven which is LOVE. We go further to assume that God understands and as such He will not condemn us. Indeed, God cannot condemn anyone, we are the ones who condemn ourselves when we allow presumption and familiarity to hold us bound in the worship of God.
THE JOY OF EARTH CAN SUBSTITUTE: This is a terrible dilemma; it is a desire that stems most times from unmortified flesh. The flesh will tell us “to give it all the joys in this world”. It is terrible that man no longer cares about listening to the message of hell, man is becoming so comfortable in the world that he believes when he gets to the next world, whatever comes up, he will accept.
LACK OF HEEDING TO THE WARNING OF ETERNAL DESTRUCTION: Beloved in Christ, work hard not to be among those who would ignore the warnings for true repentance. Do not consider going to hell; for no one who goes to hell comes back to earth to tell the encounter and it is a personal encounter. Hear the warning, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.” (Rev. 2:11 ESV)

- Grant O Lord that I may always love You as You deserve to be loved at all times, circumstances and occasions. Preserve this great love in me. Amen.
- Lord, help me to always remember the regrets of hell fire.
- Destroy out of my life everything that will make to lose you.
- Pray for those who do not believe in eternal damnation that they would have a personal encounter of what hell contains…
Exercise: Do not let anything take away the initial fear you have about going to hell.
