Scripture Reading: Hebrews 13:14
History has it that the fate of most of the Apostles was really tragic. Out of the twelve of them, it was only John that was not killed. St. Peter and St. Paul were both martyred in Rome about 66 AD, during the persecution under Emperor Nero. St. Paul was beheaded. St. Peter was crucified, upside down at his request, since he did not feel worthy to die in the same manner as his Lord. To a carnally-minded person, this may be frightening. Why would God allow His faithful servants to die such gruesome deaths? That is because THIS LIFE IS NOT ALL THERE IS. There is a better place for us Christians which our Lord Jesus Christ has gone ahead of us to prepare (John 14:1-3). That is our Lord Jesus’ promise to us; any other thing added to that may result in self-deceit. Hebrews 11: 13,16 throws light on this – we are to walk with God in faith while anticipating a heavenly country that God has prepared for us.
