Scripture reading:  Psalm 118:17

On this last day of February, the Holy Spirit assures us from the words of the Psalmist that we shall not die but live to glorify the Lord.  The Psalmist prophetic declaration of “I shall not die” was not ordinary.  It was not just a mere statement; it was a proclamation against the force of death upon his life.  It was a prophetic declaration to stop the devil from achieving his mission to kill. Several occurrences in the Scripture reveal the manipulation of death by satan; in Matthew 2:16, Herod intended to kill Jesus when he was young, the angel said to Joseph, ““Herod will be looking for the child in order to kill him.”  Also in Luke 4:29, the Pharisees wanted to kill Jesus again before his time of death because he told the truth.  In Acts 12, Herod wanted to kill Peter, haven killed James, there are certain deaths that are inspired from the pit of hell.   Today by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ we stand to cancel any death that has been manipulated by the devil. In most cases, the devil often achieves his mission of killing by suggesting to us to destroy our lives that life is no longer worth living or cause  ungodly authorities to make a pronouncement of death upon those who stand for what is right. A Christian brother told this story about his life, “He was very well-to-do and business was booming.  Suddenly his business nose-dived to zero level thus he moved from prosperity to a pauper.  One day, as he was alone thinking, the devil ministered to him, to kill himself.  Thank God for the grace of God that was higher, He listened to the voice of God that told him what to do and today he is a happy man with a happy home.”  The Psalmist tells us in Psalm 68:20, “God is to us a God of deliverance, and to God the Lord belongs escapes from death.” (NASB) and also Psalm 102:20 reassures thus, “For he looked down from the height of His sanctuary; from heaven the Lord viewed the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to release those appointed to death.  In so many ways that death keeps knocking at the door of our lives, the burial will not hold because Jesus Christ has not sanctioned it.  As our Lord Jesus Christ stopped the burial of the son of the widow of Nain in Luke 7:11-15 thus,   “Then he walked over and touched the coffin, and the men carrying it stopped.  Jesus said, “Young man get up, I tell you.  The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.”  As the angel of the Lord rescued Peter from death, as God spoke through the mouth of Reuben to spare the life of Joseph, child of God so shall every death proposal by the devil upon your life, by virtue of our agreement in prayer today be permanently cancelled.  Beloved in Christ, in as much as we try to oppose the death sentence by the devil we must endeavor not to tread the path which gives the devil an opportunity to attack us with death.  In 1 Kings 3:14, the Lord told Solomon, “And if you obey me and keep my laws and commands, as your father David did, I will give you long life” We can also escape death trap by having lovely regards and cares for our parents. (Ephesians 6:3).  The Lord concludes this message today leaving us with this prophetic blessing: “You shall not die but live to proclaim the Lord in the land of living” Amen.
