Scripture Reading:  John 15:1-10

Welcome to today’s reflection. Today, the Holy Spirit reminds us that our greatness, fulfillment and peace in this world depend on how connected we are to the Source of Life. Verses 5-6 of our scriptural reading today says, “I am the vine and you are the branches. Whoever remains in me, and I in him, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without me. Whoever does not remain in me is thrown out like a branch and dries up…”  That is to say there is no hope for any branch that cuts from the Vine(Jesus Christ).  Dear child of God, do not dare to be cut off from the source of Life, the Living Spring, source of all goodness, and all blessings.    You have been wondering why things are not what you expect them to be. Virtually everything concerning you seems to be associated with failure, disappointment, near success, shame and disgrace. Hear what the Lord promises you, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, then you will ask of anything you wish, and you shall have it. ( Verse7).

Beloved in Christ a lot of what we experience as children of God, good or bad depend to a large extent on our relationship with the Son of God. This is not to assume that believers do not have or encounter challenges; but the promise of His protection is still covering them. Satan can rear up his ugly head, but his wickedness will lapse as soon as Jesus arrives at the scene. Dear Friend in Christ, a child of God  who is securely connected to Jesus, the source of all things that are good cannot be shaken. No wonder the Psalmist says, “God is our shelter and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not be afraid, even if the earth is shaken and mountains fall into the ocean depths; even if the seas roar and rage, and the hills are shaken by the violence” (Psa. 46:1-2) Prophet Isaiah complements the Psalmist in Isa. 43:1B-3) “Do not be afraid I will save you. I have called you by name- you are mine. When you pass through deep waters, I will be with you; your troubles will not overwhelm you. When you pass through fire, you will not be burnt; the hard trials that come will not hurt you. For I am the Lord your God………..”  When you are connected to the vine, you are connected to the “Excellent Spirit”; and so you will do excellent things.  How then can we know the Lord?  We can know the Lord when we allow the word of God to be a guideof what we do in life. Your life becomes a reflection of what the Bible says not merely because you are reading the Bible, but because you actually doing what God expects. Another way we can show that we know the Lord is by working for Him. So many children of God have abandoned the business of God, yet they want to share from the profit (blessings of God).  They want to be paid salary by the Lord, yet they have not done any work for Him.  Hear what the Lord tells us in Hebrews 6:10, “God is not unfair.  He will not forget the work you did or the love you showed for him in the help you gave and are still giving your fellow-Christians.

Dear child of God if you are facing hard times despite your faithfulness to God, do not be worried for the Gate Keeper of your life sees and knows what you are doing. If on the other hand you are disconnected from the Lord due to sins and acts of ungodliness, the Holy Spirit calls you to repentance. This is why some persons whose businesses started very well suddenly begin to lose everything.  Look round your church are there cobwebs; take time to assist to remove them.  Impress God with your efforts.  So many children of God are under heavy weight of debts, hardships, poverty yet they worsen this situation by abandoning or ignoring the things that concern God.  Beloved in Christ, knowing Him is what matters.  Knowing Him will bring you breakthrough.  By knowing Him, your steps will be ordered unto victory. Knowing Him will lead you to carrying out divine instructions that yield supernatural results. Be blessed.

Prayer Points:

  1. Thank God for today’s reflection.
  2. Lord, forgive me for disconnecting from you. From today I hereby connect to You so that I can bear fruit.
  3. Lord, I give myself to you from today. Do not let me forsake You again.
  4. Pray for all those who are undergoing hard times that they will never go astray because of hardships.

Exercise:  Come back to the Lord.  Start doing something for God and you will receive His favour.
