Scripture Reading: 1 Samuel 15:9-23

God sent His prophet Samuel to tell King Saul that he should attack Amalek and destroy all that they had. God told him to kill every human and beast in that land and not to spare anybody or anything. He was to burn the entire place to the ground (1 Samuel 15:1-3).

He killed the people and the other worthless animals but somehow Saul taught that he knew more than God and thus spared the king of the land and refused to destroy the choicest livestock and goods but instead he took them. His defence; they were going to sacrifice the best of the things to the LORD (1 Samuel 15: 9,21). Can you imagine? Was that what God asked him to do? Samuel replied him saying, “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:22). I want to repeat it: OBEDIENCE IS BETTER THAN SACRIFICE! Saul attempted to offer God an unworthy sacrifice.

Saul did not become king by himself. It was God that sent Samuel to anoint Saul as king. God delighted in Saul and deliberately chose him (1 Sam 9:17). The one whom God had chosen God rejected because of his disobedience.

Beloved in Christ, it is more important to do what God asks you to do than what you THINK is good enough. God said in Isaiah 55:9, “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.”. There is a way that seems right unto man, but its end is the way of death (Prov. 14:12). Therefore, do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and depart from evil (Prov. 3:7).

Prayer points:

1.    Father in heaven I repent of every way in which I have been disobedient to You. I am sorry. Have mercy upon me and wash away my sins by the Blood of Jesus Christ.

2.    Lord, your Word has shown that righteousness and justice are more acceptable to You than sacrifice. Lord, please grant me with the Spirit of obedience that I may always seek to do your will, which is the true sacrifice and not my will in the Name of Jesus the Lord.

3.    Holy Spirit teach me to be humble that I may submit myself to wise counsel from those who know better than me. In the Name of Jesus the Lord.
