Scripture Reading: Luke 2:36-38
If your spirituality is likened to computer software, is it out of dated? If your spirituality is a computer, which version will it be? If your spiritual life is likened to a Blackberry Phone, have you upgraded it recently? If your spiritual life is likened to a product, is such product expired. Imagine what happens when a product expires, such product becomes useless. This also happens with our spirituality too.
Dear Child of God, winning the Christian battles and becoming victorious depend on the content of your knowledge and how updated it is. What do you know about God, what do you know about spirituality and spiritual things (spiritual intelligence)? What do you know about how the devil operates? When you hear that God is Almighty, do you really understand what it means? You are facing a lot of setbacks in life and you are relaxed, do you understand that something is wrong? You used to be serious with the things of God but today, you have abandoned the house of God and you are still comfortable? God is not happy about the shallow knowledge we have about spiritual things and about Him, this is the reason there are lots of wounded Christians, lots of tales of woes among Christians. This is what a Christian author observed, “We never grow closer to God when we just live life. It takes deliberate pursuit and attentiveness.” We must pursue God deliberately by seeking knowledge, deliberately striving to know the things and ways of God. No wonder the word of God points to us the reason we have a lot of bad stories to tell even as Christian. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.” (Hos 4:6). If our spirituality is graded academically, what will be our qualification- Certificate, Degree, Master, Doctorate or Professorial? There must be a progressive and sustained growth of our Christian life. God told Joshua how often he must update his spiritual life, if he must succeed, “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.” (Joshua 1:8, AMP.) The expression “day and night” dear child of God is an expression of how serious it is to constantly update oneself spiritually. The word of God made us to understand that the enemy we are battling with, does not rest, which means everyday Satan is devising new strategies of pulling down the Children of God. Some Christians do not even know that the enemy they are battling with is the devil and not anyone else. 1 Peter 5:8, “Be alert, be on watch! Your enemy, the Devil, roams around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” Beloved in Christ, do you know that Satan is so strategic and technical that he knows what strategy he could deploy to pull any child of God down; and that you will not observe or even understand this reality unless you are ahead spiritually? Beloved, Jesus says in the Beatitudes, Mat. 5:6, “Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God required; God will satisfy them fully”. Dear Child of God, “never stop improving your knowledge and deepening your perception about God so that you can always recognize the right thing to do. This will help you to become pure and blameless, and prepare you for the Day of Christ.” (Philippians 1:9-10, paraphrased)
- Thank God for the word of God today.
- Pray for continuous growth in your spiritual knowledge.
- Pray for those who are ignorant of spiritual things that they will begin to seek God and about His ways.
- Let us pray for all Children of God who were formerly active before have become lukewarm, spiritually dried, or outdated that the Holy Spirit will be active their spiritual lives again.
Exercise: Strive continuously to engage yourself with those spiritual activities that update your spiritual life continuously.
