(Day 19 of the Fasting and Prayer Programme)
Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 32:35
Today, the Holy Spirit advises thus: “Vengeance is mine and recompense for the time when their foot shall slip; because the day of their calamity is at hand, their doom comes swiftly.” (Deut. 32:35) He uses this instrument of vengeance to show that He watches over us and takes notice of what we are going through in the hands of others. The scripture says, “For my eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from my presence; nor is their iniquity concealed from my sight.” (Jer. 16:17) Beloved in Christ, difficulties, oppression, neglect, rejection and injustices are common place in this world. Some people enjoy doing all these. But the Holy Spirit says that it is wrong to say, “I will pay you back for this wrong; rather wait for the Lord, and He will avenge you.” (Prov. 20:22) It is important to know that revenge has awful consequences for those who do it and to those to whom it is done. You may be hurting now due to the wounds, wrongs, betrayals, mistreatment, abuses, neglect, etc., meted on you by the world; allow the Lord to avenge for you. The Lord will fight your battle. The Psalmist says, “You will only look with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.” (Psalms 91:8). When the enemies of God’s people came against them, the God of vengeance stepped in. He said, “Listen all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and king Jehoshaphat. Thus says the Lord to you: (put your name) ‘Do not fear or be dismayed at this great multitude; for the battle is not yours but God’s . . .. This battle is not for you to fight; take your position, standstill, and see the victory of the Lord on your behalf . . .’” (2 Chronicles 20:15-17)
Beloved, when God comes with vengeance, no power can stop it. Hence, the Scripture says, “Say to those who are of fearful heart, ‘Be strong, do not fear! Here is your God, He will come with vengeance, with terrible recompense. He will come and save you’.” (Isa. 35:4)
