Scripture Reading: Psalm 56:1-3

The song writer says “You are my hiding place.  You always fill my heart with songs of deliverance, whenever I am afraid I will trust in you (2x) let the weak say I am strong, with the strength of the Lord.”

There are many things that can make you develop fear and become afraid.  When a newly married couple has waited for months and years for the fruit of the womb, fear will set in.  When your new born baby suddenly becomes sick you will be afraid.  An accident that claim the lives of many yet you were saved can make you feel afraid each time you want to travel.  When your area is prone to robbery attacks, every gun short or unusual noise at the gate will make you afraid.  If after exams, you heard there was mass failure you can be afraid. The outbreak of a deadly disease can make you afraid.  If you have suffered spiritual attacks and demonic oppression, that can make you afraid.  When there is an ongoing retrenchment in your work place that can make you afraid.  When your children all of a sudden develop cold feet to learning and to the service of God that can make you afraid.Dear reader, no matter the issue that makes you afraid, take it to God first.  He is more than able to handle your fears.  The Lord should be your place of refuge when the enemy strikes.  Don’t allow the incident make you lose confidence in God that is what the enemy actually wants.  They want you to lose your balance and feel that God is not in your affairs or He is no more watching over you.  Through fear the devil and his demons can have footholds into your life.

Therefore, when you are confronted by fear, put on faith as a shield.  For instance, when you are traveling in a bus and you become afraid, cast the spirit out and lean on God’s word that says, ‘I am with you always’.  Feed your mind with the scriptures and hold strongly to it.  Even when the issue is getting serious, have confidence in the saving power of God.  When Jesus was in the boat with the disciples and a strong wind came.  The disciples were afraid, but when they realized that the captain of the boat and the Lord of the seawas with them, He rebuked the wind and the sea was calm.  Beloved, if the sea could hear his royal voice, what is that thing that could stop Him when you run to Him. Remember what the Lord says in Isaiah 43:1-2, “But now, this is what the Lord says – he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel; fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.  When you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you, when you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.”   This means that those things that will make you afraid will certainly come; be rest assured that the Lord is there waiting to help you even before they happen.  Since this is the case, put your trust completely on God.
