Scripture Reading: Acts 10:1-4
Raising a godly family is the primary assignment of every parent with the father taking the lead. The Holy Spirit is reawakening our consciousness to the fact that the father should take the lead role of moving the spirituality of his family forward. There is nothing as wonderful and powerful as a father who is well-equipped spiritually, who has sound spiritual knowledge; because he shall be a source of strength and encouragement for his family members. The devil cannot toil with such homes. Fathers must endeavor to ensure that every member of his household possesses the fear and wisdom of God. This role cannot be delegated; it is not the women’s responsibility. In our world today, the problem of social and moral values can be traced to the failed spirituality of the fathers. The fathers are the role model, your children are consciously or unconsciously learning from you. You must lead them to God.
The word of God describes Cornelius as “A devout man and one who feared God with his entire household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always.” (Acts 10:2, NKJV) Every father should desire to be like Cornelius, his godliness brought God’s salvation to the Gentiles and to his household. Joshua is also another father that understood the role of building a godly home, he told the people of Israelites in Josh 24:15, ”If you are not willing to serve him, decide today whom you will serve, the gods your ancestors worshiped in Mesopotamia or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are now living. As for my family and me, we will serve the Lord.” Pope Francis advises families to challenge the new ideologies affecting marriage, (modern day threat to family life) thus, “Let us be on guard against colonization by new ideologies. There are forms of ideological colonization which are out to destroy the family. […] Let’s not lose the freedom of the mission which God has given us, the mission of the family. Just as our peoples, at a certain moment of their history, were mature enough to say ‘no’ to all forms of political colonization, so too in our families we need to be very wise, very shrewd, very strong, in order to say ‘no’ to all attempts at an ideological colonization of our families.”
Do you take time to teach your children biblical principles? Have your children learnt anything from you about how to grow up in holiness and purity. Have you taught your sons and daughters the need to remain pure until the day of marriage? Do you pray with them at home and take them for spiritual outings or to picnics at beaches or at holiday resorts? This analysis is worrisome quoting from the article of Pastor Terry Coomer, he said, “According to the National Fatherhood Institute, 40% of the children in the United States have not seen their father for a year! In the last 15 years “fatherless” children jumped from 10.2 million to 15.6 million. 70% of juveniles in detention centers and reformatories are children of fatherless homes. Statistics indicate that “violent criminals” are overwhelmingly males who grew up without a father’s leadership. This includes 60% of America’s rapists, 72% of adolescent murders, and 70% of long-term prison inmates.” As a father the Lord desires that you do not neglect or trivialize your spiritual, godly and leadership role in the family. Eli neglected the waywardness of his children and God never took it lightly with him. He died out of heart break. (1 Samuel 4:16).To be continued tomorrow!
