Scripture Reading: Matthew 8:26

Fear is one of the many realities that man cannot run away from. In every facet of human endeavour, man continues to express fear, mostly. A sister had once told me about her predicaments and how the nation is not just helping the economic situation of the country. Depression, frustration, desolation was all that beclouded her face. She ended her narration with a deep sigh and said “I am afraid if I will survive it.” I immediately put this to her: “Why are you afraid?” she couldn’t say anything at that moment, because the question hit on the stronghold of her faith. It was time to walk in the power of that faith that was given her at baptism. She knew it was time to re-examine her person in Christ.
In the biblical passage we are looking at today, Jesus was right inside the boat with His disciples when the storm broke over the lake. The boat was about being drowned by the waves. The disciples were all in fear. Maybe they did not understand the person of Jesus.
Beloved in Christ, your baptism in the Holy Spirit has dispersed the shades of fear. You are God’s property. Being afraid means a form of slavery to the situation that man is facing. But your birth in Christ Jesus has taken you out from the realm of fear. You are a creature filled with God’s blessings and anointing to turn things around. No situation is above you because the Lord has blessed you with an authority that even the devil cannot turn down. The Lord says concerning you this day that, “I will be with you till the end of time. (Matthew 28:19-20). In you is the power to change your situation. The Scripture says: “I have given you the power to trample upon every kingdom and power, dominion and principalities. Whatever you bind on earth is considered bound in heaven, and whatever you lose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven. (Matthew 18:18). You need not be afraid of the situation you are passing through. You have the power and the presence of the Lord is with you to lead you through every situation. Tap into the power of the name of Jesus and change your situation for the better. “All who are guided by the Spirit of God are sons of God; for what you received was not the spirit of slavery to bring you back into fear; you received the Spirit of adoption, enabling us to cry out, ‘Abba, Father!’” (Rom. 8:15) You are no more a slave to any situation but a master of that situation that you are passing through. “You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.” (Phil.4:13)
O child of God, there is power in the name of Jesus. Use the name to command the situations around you. What are the waves confronting your boat? You have Jesus in your boat and what waves can defer the command of Jesus? Sure, you know the answer, Victory and power has now been won by our God. in your baptism into the mystery of Christ’s passion, death, resurrection and ascension into heaven, you share in the person of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. That is who you are, O child of God. Nothing should shake your person. You have all the power to change your situation. The Lord has the final say of your life. (Lam. 3:37) You can overthrow the Goliaths of your Life. Jesus is with you. Fear not, O child of God. You have God in your camp. Fear is not part of God’s portion for you. The Spirit of God is upon you and you bear the name of Jesus, the master of all situation. O child of God, are you afraid of your job, health condition, the present condition of your family, the poor economy of your nation, being sacked from your job, failure in your examination or business transaction? Your comfort today O child of God rests in the Lord the Mighty situation changer. Be not afraid, for Jesus is with you. You have the master in your camp. Brace up and confront your situation in faith. God bless you as you tap into the power of your true identity as a Christian.
