Scripture Reading: Galatians 4:1 – 7
Let’s start today’s reflection with these beautiful prayers: “Jesus source of life, sanctify me. O my strength, fortify me. My commander, fight for me. Only light of my soul, enlighten me. My master, guide me.” (St. Maria Faustina Kowalska) St. Francis d’Assisi prays, “We adore you and we bless you Lord Jesus Christ, here and in all the churches which are in the world, because by your holy cross you have redeemed the world.” Welcome to today’s reflection. The Lord we serve is both caring and loving, and has so wonderfully and solidly laid the foundation of our lives from the beginning to eternity in Christ Jesus. Beloved, you are precious in the eyes of God because He loved you from the beginning even when you were yet a sinner. He is so concerned about you that He does not want you to be lost. You are important because you have an inheritance in Christ as your Redeemer and Co-heir of God’s kingdom. V. 1 of our scripture reference says, that in the older order, the son who would receive his father’s property (inheritance) was treated just like a slave, while he was young, even though he really owned everything. This means that people had to manage the inheritance for him until he was matured enough to take over. This was the situation of man. Man was a slave and in bondage in the old law whose gods are the gods of this earth.
However, in vs. 4a – 5, the scripture says, “But when the right time finally came, God sent His only son to redeem those who were under the Law, so that we might become God’s sons and daughters. As a consequence of this, God through His Son Jesus Christ sent the Holy Spirit into the hearts of men. It is this Spirit of Christ that enables us to shout, ‘Abba Father’, thereby acknowledging and declaring God as our Father.” Beloved in Christ, this is a rare privilege, God gives to all who love and acknowledge Him as God. From the beginning He called us His own and at the fullness of time for our redemption, God (the WORD) came down, born of human flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:1 – 2); speaking and teaching mankind the way to salvation through repentance. He washed away our sins by shedding His Blood on the Cross. In doing this, He handed over to all who belong to Him an everlasting inheritance. Let us therefore walk into the inheritance as His privileged and precious children. This inheritance is not for sale, or for exchange nor to be forfeited. Hear this, “But Naboth replied, the Lord forbids that I should give you the inheritance of my Fathers.”
Today, the Holy Spirit points Jesus Christ to you as the WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE. In Him we have fullness of life. In Him we have forgiveness of sins through His shed Blood. In Him we have the Spirit of God; and have become adopted sons and daughters of God above all, we have become co-heirs of God’s kingdom, prepared for us from the foundation of the world. Let us, therefore, focus on Jesus so that we do not lose our inheritance.
